What marks the official start of the holidays for you? For me, it’s as soon as Halloween is over and November 1st hits. But when it comes to Christmas traditions, when I think about it – I don’t really have any nowadays.
But when I was a kid, the tradition was on the Sunday before Christmas, we would all go to my Grandma’s house and bake cookies. I was always in charge of stirring things.
When it came to the holiday traditions, they are ingrained in all of us. So when talking to Vanessa Marano about Christmas traditions and what signifies Christmas to her she had us thinking about Christmas traditions even more.
And a big part of the traditions of holidays does revolve around food.
Marano said, “We do a Feast of the Seven Fishes, which is a line in the movie, which, ironically, my character Abby knows nothing about. Vanessa Marano, the actress who plays the Abby, knows a lot about. My dad will make a sauce, like a seafood-based sauce with calamari and crab and clams. We do fried calamari as well, steam clams. Every year, it’s one of my favorite things to do is go to town on the crab legs is the best part.”
But that wasn’t the only thing. She continued, “Then also the baking of it all. My mother has a fudge recipe from my great aunt that she makes every year, and my mom hates being in the kitchen, and it’s the one thing that she will do every year. She is the most stressed-out person in the entire world. This is literally, this is every single year, this happens, she is going to burn it. She’s always on the verge of burning it. She’s having a nervous breakdown. My father’s making a seven-course meal on the background and he’s the most relaxed person in the entire world. She’s like, ‘No, the marshmallows fluff is going to burn. I can’t handle it.'”
