Fandom, oh fandom. You fickle bitch.
Every year fandom is something different. It evolves, it regresses, it makes us have to stop and think. It makes us complain at points. It’s also such a big part of our lives and keeps us going at times. It beings out the best in some of us, it brings out the worst. But what it is – what we feel it is – is a big part of who we are.
Fandom is hard to narrow down, because it’s very subjective. But for us, here’s the top five fandoms of 2022.

WARRIOR NUN
The Warrior Nun fandom is one of the most dedicated out there as they continue to fight for their show. And yes, they’re campaigning for another season because of their love for Avatrice, the main ship of the show that gave us top notch LGBTQ+ representation. But they’re also fighting for stories about badass women from all sorts of backgrounds who are all going on their own journey. Tie it all together with social commentary on gender roles, the church, and governing powers and you’ve got an intriguing show these fans rally behind. Hopefully their efforts will get more people to watch Warrior Nun and help in the fight for season 3!

HALLMARK
We’ve learned a lot about ourselves this year and one of those things is that we love Hallmark. We love the cheesiness that makes us feel something. Some will say that it’s the same movie over and over again, but we’d challenge that. It’s stories that remind you that life can be complex, but at the heart of everything is the reminder that you may stumble, you may falter, but the reality is there is always love out there in the world if you just allow yourself to see it. Hallmark has progressed a lot and yes, it’s still got a bit to go, but we’re here for it.

VAMPIRE ACADEMY
The Vampire Academy fandom could have stayed in the past, in the books that were, instead of in the show that is. Instead they embraced a much more diverse story and have, at every point, championed all characters and actors, but above all Rose Hathaway — and that’s really the way it had to be. Peacock is a newer streaming service that didn’t have a flagship show before Vampire Academy, and if they’re smart, they will give this show (and the fandom) many seasons more to prove what they can do.

ONE CHICAGO
The One Chicago fandom is a beast, and we say that in the best way possible. When you have three shows and multiple characters and ships to support, there’s a lot of factions and a lot of preferences, but this fandom will always show up to support and uplift their favorites… Especially in comparison to anything else. It’s basically like when someone insults your sister. You might do it, but no one else can. And with such a passionate fanbase, is it any wonder it’s been a decade of One Chicago?

TED LASSO
There is something about a show that inspires, makes you laugh, has heart, gives you ships, and ignites a love of soccer. It doesn’t matter if there aren’t new episodes, Ted Lasso is that show that will have you rewatching over and over again. It’s a fandom that has you scouring the internet for anything and everything you can find. Ted Lasso has us so captivated that you follow the actors to whatever they are doing next and supporting. There is no television show like it and we’re obsessed with it. We’ll remain obsessed with it too, even when it’s over. It’s timeless.
While these are our top five (in no particular order), but there are some honorable mentions (AKA the fandoms that didn’t make the top 5).
