Lizzo calls out the trolls and their body shaming comments.
The reason we hate social media? Trolls. People feel the need to give their opinion and it is not always kind. Trolls are definitely not kind to Lizzo and her body positivity posts. While the singer handles it with class, she also fires back.
Lizzo is not taking peoples shit and we appreciate that. She recently posted a video of herself on vacation and in a bikini and spoke out about the discourse around bodies.
She captioned the post, “If we had to pay money for every comment we post on social media maybe people would think before they type 😏”
But the important stuff was in the clip and the words that she said are really important.
“The discourse around bodies is officially tired,” Lizzo said in the post, “I have seen comments go from: ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick. Why did you lose weight?’; to ‘Oh my gosh, why did you get a BBL? I liked your body before’; to ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. You need to lose weight, but for your health’; to ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little. You need to get ass or titties or something’; to ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get all that work done? It’s just too much work.’”
Lizzo continued, “Are we OK? Do you see the delusion? Do we realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art. And this body is art.”
Yes, we get it, everyone has an opinion. That being said though, opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one. Clean your opinion up and be kind. There isn’t a need for anyone to comment on someone else’s body. If it doesn’t affect you, why do you need to open your mouth?
Lizzo said that she’s “going to do whatever I want with this body” and we applaud that.
