From Spaceballs to The Producers to Blazing Saddles, Mel Brooks is known for timeless classics that spoof popular genres of film. Fans have been waiting for a sequel to History of the World: Part I since its release in 1981. Their patience is about to pay off, as Hulu released the trailer for the upcoming History of the World: Part II. This 8-part series premieres with two episodes on March 6. Two episodes will drop each day until the finale on March 9.
Not much is known of the plot of History of the World: Part II. Except to say, similar to its predecessor, it will likely be made up of segments set during various periods in world history. The similarities clearly won’t end there. Part I featured classic moments from such beloved actors as Mel Brooks, Gregory Hines, Dom DeLuise, Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, and the iconic Madeline Kahn. Part II will be no less star-studded, starring Brooks, Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz. Other actors include D’Arcy Carden, Danny DeVito, David Duchovny, Josh Gad, Jake Johnson, Kumail Nanjiani, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, and Taika Waititi.
So what periods of history will History of the World: Part II cover – in its own irreverent way? Possibly all of them. Check out the trailer below:
I’d break down the teaser trailer, but there’s so much going on, I’m not sure where to even begin. Then again, anything less wouldn’t feel like a Mel Brooks movie. The real question is, how does a 96-year-old find the energy? I guess it’s true what he said in Part I: It’s good to be the king.
