Can you imagine what it would be like to have someone take over a role that you originated? We couldn’t, but we do know that it happens. Remakes seem to be the standard these days and we are torn over a lot of them. We are torn because we love some castings, but we’re also loyal to the original.
Back in 2022 (we like to act like it was long ago, though it wasn’t) it was announced that Sydney Sweeney was starring in the remake of Barbarella. If you aren’t familiar with the original, the iconic Jane Fonda starred in the movie. Yes, the movie was made back in 1968, but it’s still amazing.
We absolutely love Sydney Sweeney and so knowing that she was cast in the remake, made us think twice about the remake and leave ourselves open to what happens next. It could be good, but the truth is, if they f**k it up, it will make us think twice about Sydney. And yes, we hate that.
So we try not to think about it and we’re not alone in that.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Jane Fonda what she thought of the remake and she said, “I try not to.”
“Because I worry about what it’s going to be,” continued the icon. “I had an idea of how to do it that Dino De Laurentiis, when he was still alive, wouldn’t listen to.”
Dino De Laurentiis was the producer on the original movie.
