Every once in a while a trailer will pop up that really gets you thinking: “What the actual hell is going on and why do I want to watch this movie?” It happened with that Winnie the Pooh slasher and again with Cocaine Bear. Now it’s happening with Owen Wilson‘s newest movie Paint.
In Paint, Wilson plays Carl Nargle. He’s a painter from Vermont who uses his talents to create picturesque nature scenes. He’s Vermont’s #1 public television painter and has adoring fans everywhere he turns. And yes, he absolutely looks like Bob Ross, the famed painter from The Joy of Painting that stole all of our hearts with his calming voice and wise words.
This pseudo-Bob Ross sees his entire life change when a new painter hits the scene. Ambrosia Long (Ciara Renée) is young, talented, and likeable. And before he knows it, according to the synopsis on IMDb, “steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves.” That leads Carl to question his life, where he’s going, and possibly how long he can hold onto this.
As someone who grew up with Bob Ross, it’s kind of confusing to see Wilson play a character that is clearly supposed to be him. What kind of message are they trying to send to Ross fans and could they get in trouble for this? At the same time, we’re absolutely intrigued by the idea of Wilson playing someone akin to our beloved icon. Maybe it’ll be fun?
Either way, we’re down for seeing more Wilson on our screen and will take this time to tell you that the Calm App has Bob Ross sleep stories. You’re welcome.
