After watching the official trailer for Cocaine Bear, I’m convinced this is a fever dream. Directed by the Elizabeth Banks, best known for movies like Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games, it tells a story of a bear who goes on a wild ride after eating a whole bunch of cocaine and wanting more, more, more. And it’s inspired by a true story.
According to Entertainment Weekly, in 1985 investigators were searching for drugs dropped in Georgia’s Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest from a plane. There were about 40 packages of cocaine worth $20 million at the time. And the actual bear from this story was found dead after having eaten “several million dollars worth of cocaine.”
Banks is transforming that story into a dark comedy starring Keri Russell (The Americans), O’Shea Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Emmy winner Ray Liotta (The Many Saints of Newark). And from the first trailer, they are giving their all in this battle against a 500-pound apex predator.
Here are 5 WTF moments from Cocaine Bear that we can’t stop thinking about…
1. The bear doing a line off a detached leg.
I had to watch this scene from Cocaine Bear over and over to make sure I was seeing this right. The bear did a line off a dead man’s leg. *stares into distance*
2. The bear getting a superhero leap moment.
This moment elevated Cocaine Bear into an action movie. Hands down.
3. The bear actually being cute for a moment after eating cocaine.
4. The bear threatening the life of a stunning Keri Russell.
First of all, she looks stunning in this pink suit. Second, I can’t wait for her to have her action-hero moment against a bear.
5. The bear tackling that hiker.
Never did I ever think that I would see a bear high on cocaine tackling a woman innocently hiking. But here we are.
