Like so many, I grew up on the original Magnum P.I. with Tom Selleck. I remember members of my family saying how handsome he was and all I could think most of the time was why would anyone want a mustache like that.
But that was long ago and I live in a time where we’re lucky enough to have reboots and Hollywood furnishing us with a reboot that is enticing, innovative, and yet it still pays homage to the original. The new Magnum P.I. is about, “Thomas Magnum is a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum has Juliet Higgins and her Dobermans to keep him in line, as well as his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors T.C. and Rick when he needs backup on a job. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is on the case.”
But one of the best parts of the show is Tim Kang, who plays Gordon Katsumoto. Detective Katsumoto is a bad ass – dedicated to his job, his family and his friends. He’s hard to read, but there is something about him that makes you want to know more.
As this season has progressed, we’re getting a whole new Detective Katsumoto – one that isn’t only about the job but sees the beauty in the important things in life.
Tim Kang is a gem. He loves to laugh and he has the most amazing answers to questions. Personally could sit and listen to his laugh always.
The all new Magnum P.I. airs Sundays on NBC.
