We’ve only had The Meg 2 for a day and already I firmly believe that it’s going to be peak cinema. The first movie had our hero Jason Statham dealing with one megalodon. Now Statham’s character Jonas Taylor has more to deal with as the trench they explore has not one megalodon but three. And this time, they’re hunting in a pack because of course they are. But wait. There’s more! There are other creatures that have escaped the trench. And I swear to you one of them looks like a dinosaur while the other looks like a giant octopus.
As a long-time fan of shit show monster movies, I hope that The Meg 2 has an absolute blast creating a monster world that will hopefully cross over with others one day. Because imagine a megalodon versus Godzilla? AMAZING! Peak cinema! I also hope that Jonas gets more time with what has clearly become his surrogate daughter aka Meiying, played by Shuya Sophia Cai, who is back for the sequel. The question is, where is Suyin, played by Bingbing Li? Because Jonas and Suyin were definitely OTP material if I’ve ever seen one.
