Fast X isn’t going to be the end of the Fast and Furious franchise according to star Vin Diesel and Variety. At the Fast X premiere in Rome, Diesel revealed that “going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter.” Things changed though after they saw the movie. Apparently, they wanted a trilogy. And Michelle Rodriguez added, “It’s three acts in any story.” And look, I think this is the right decision. Let me explain why.
The Fast and Furious franchise is an ever-evolving giant that welcomes so many different talents while pushing the boundaries of what is possible. From Oscar winners to death-defying feats that you never thought you’d see, this franchise has done it all. But it’s the commitment to family that makes this franchise one of the best ones out there. And personally, I think we need a lot more of this, especially in the shit show that is 2023.
Within the Fast and Furious many of us have found community or an escape. And we have mourned losses together, laughed together, and felt like we were part of something bigger than ourselves. At the end of the day, isn’t that what movie-making is about? Community? Making people feel seen. And yes, that counts even for a movie about fast cars and familyyyyyy. If that means that Dom is going to have to go space, time travel, or become a superhero because anything is possible, then so be it.
And for those worried that maybe this is just the cast pulling our leg, remember what Rodriguez said. “It is not really an ending, but it’s also like, ‘You can’t do this to us. We’re your die-hard fans, you can’t do this to us!'” They’re not going to leave us hanging. They wouldn’t.
