We watch a lot of TV! In case all the reviews, interviews, news, and features didn’t give you a clue (wink, wink), we’ve decided to come together once a week to highlight all those great moments that our favorite shows give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
Badass Character of the Week
Miah: Hailey Upton in the last Chicago P.D. episode. Not only did this woman get herself out of one of the worst situations one could ever be in, but she finally put herself first after a LONG time. She saved herself, and proved throughout this episode how badass she is in a fight. She deserves the world, and for her to be shredding herself inside out for people who can’t even give half of that back? It’s not fair for her to be carrying all that pain, especially not alone.
While I don’t think this is the absolute end of Upstead, because I think Jay’s common sense will kick back into gear soon enough, I think it made sense for Hailey to accept where the chips have fallen. It’s not easy to accept something so painful with such resilience, but again that’s Hailey. Good or bad, she fights and she keeps going. Let’s hope she gets some rest, and honestly, I hope she flourishes immeasurably. Also, again, Tracy Frickin Spiridakos. Legend.
Rebecca: I applaud the hell out of The Company You Keep’s Emma for standing up to her boss/supervisor regarding her recent actions and activities and having the confidence in herself and her belief that she’s done and been doing the right thing that she quits. YOU GO GIRL!
Shana: Pretty sure we’re going with Lottie from Yellowjackets. For her to be so young, yet still realize that Shauna’s anger was coming from a place of pain and bravely offer herself up to feel the physical manifestation of it…it’s a lot. She was willing to die, if it went that far — and it nearly did! — because she knew the group needed Shauna’s skills to survive. We obviously shouldn’t expect our friends to let us beat the shit out of them when we’re hurting, but there’s something to be said for willing to carry that hurt for someone you care about. And, if you think about it, the person Lottie becomes as an adult is somehow even more remarkable knowing this.
Ashley T.: For my money, I’ve got to go with Nathan Shelley on Ted Lasso. I’ve enjoyed watching Nate grow in his self-confidence and as soon as he realizes that Rupert is trying to get him to go philandering with him, he’s out of there. That is a huge step for Nate and I’m proud of him.
OTP of the Week
Rebecca: I think I’ve made it VERY clear now that I’m a HUGE fan of The Company You Keep’s #Hilletti and one moment in particular made me (and no doubt many others) VERY happy this week when the pair once again gave in to their attraction and acknowledged their AMAZING chemistry. Now I’m just hoping the show gets renewed so I might get to enjoy several more moments like that…
Shana: I mean, I know I’m…very much the opposite of happy with the large-scale part of the storytelling around their latest stuff, but EO. Like, look at their goofy little heart eyes. They are the worst television-related addiction to shake.
Jasmine: Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve been absolutely loving all the moments between Spencer and Trina AKA Sprina on General Hospital. They’ve been my OTP since the beginning and watching Trina have the flashback of her and Spencer as she waited to find out if he made it off the Haunted Star after the drone hit was so beautiful and emotional. It was a reminder to me why they are soulmates.
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Miah: Hailey and Torres sparing, and how concerned Torres was for her just made me feel so much. There is someone who is looking out for her, and is trying to help her. There is someone who cares for her and isn’t invading her space, but allowing her to process while being there for her. Seriously, watching her wipe the floor with him was just amazing.
Rebecca: While one #Hilletti moment made my heart leap this week, another all but shattered it. With The Maguires taken down (Patrick at least), Emma suggests that she and Charlie keep working and being together. “I love you” she tells him. Charlie’s response? “I love you too. I do but – that’s not going to be enough. There’s no world where you can be who you are, and I can be who I am – and we can be together.” *sobs*.
Shana: I thought, early on in the latest Yellowjackets episode, that the hardest thing to watch was going to be Shauna all by herself, just begging Jackie’s ghost to come back because she needed her. Turns out Lottie volunteering herself as a punching bag, while the rest of the team watched, so Shauna could let all those feelings out — all with the present-day joy being cut against it — wins that. If we had a mindfuck of the way category, this would also win that, for what it’s worth.
Ashley T.: I got feels about my boy Roy Kent in Ted Lasso giving that press conference and NOT telling everyone to just fuck off. Roy’s always had a gruff exterior, but these quieter moments with him really demonstrate that he is actually a deeply kind and empathetic man. It also shows just how much he’s grown. I’m so eager to get more emotional payoff with him this season.
Jasmine: Spencer and Trinas reunion on General Hospital. OH. MY. GOD. Trina spent the entire episode waiting for him to come back. Eventually, she had to go with everyone so they could head back to Port Charles. Just as she and the others were preparing to walk to the seaplane, Spencer popped up. Trina was so relieved to see him that she ran and leapt into his arms. They shared the most beautiful hug and kiss I’ve ever seen on a soap opera. Finding out later from Nicholas Chavez that Tabyana Ali actually improvised that moment only added to the beauty of it. ALL. THE. FEELS.
Quote of the Week
Ashley T.: “You want way more than that. You’re just so convinced you don’t deserve anything good in your life that you’d rather eat a bowl of shit soup and then complain about the portions. Get out of your own way, man.” – Rebecca Welton, Ted Lasso.
Rebecca: “I’m done trying to be someone I’m not.” The Company You Keep’s David Hill. Far too often we change ourselves and our lives to fit in with the lives and wants of other people. David refusing to be anyone but himself – regardless of what others think – is an important reminder that it’s absolutely okay – and necessary – to 100% be who YOU are and to live a life that feels right and makes you happy.
Shana: “We don’t not care — we care very much. We care who you are and what you must’ve been going through. And hey. From now on? You don’t have to go through it all by yourself.” Ted Lasso.
Jasmine: “I remembered your face. And your voice, and your laugh. And I knew that I had to get back to you. – Spencer Cassadine, General Hospital.
WTF Moment of the Week
Miah: Voight talking to Hailey, is just, no. While I believe Hailey needs to put herself first, under no circumstance do I believe that Voight should be giving her advice. Like, seriously?!? The man who did his best to drive a wedge between Upstead and rip them apart, mostly by attacking Hailey, is telling her to let go? He’s the one who brought them to this in the first place. If anything, it just shows how cruel Voight is. He breaks everyone down until they are exactly where he needs them.
Shana: All of the good EO moments because…see also the reviews linked above. That’s right: They are both everything and giant WTFs. I am a woman of many contradictions.
