Dune 2 has just dropped its first official trailer and honestly…I miss Oscar Isaac. No tea, no shade to Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, or Rebecca Ferguson. They’re aces and know what they’re doing; especially Zendaya. But Isaac carried this presence, this grandiose nature that made you stop and stare. And maybe that’s exactly why his character had to die to set the stage for what’s to come for Chalamet’s Paul Atreides.
In the trailer for Dune 2 we get to see a Paul who has lost everything but gained a new life and way of living. He’s also found love and understanding with Zendaya’s character Chani; who is the fiercest of them all. Sorry, not sorry, everyone on Arrakis. But on a planet that means riches to those who covet it, Paul is a threat that must be destroyed. But those who threaten him don’t understand that Paul isn’t just surviving on Arrakis. He’s thriving and getting to know the people while setting himself up to be their leader.
Sure, his leading is based on a legend and there are big sandworms and stuff. But it’s the survival of it all that I really enjoy when it comes to what I’m seeing with Dune 2. Because when you’re put into a situation like Paul was put into where his entire life was wiped off this planet, you have a choice. And he chose to live, transform, and maybe even just become the man his father always knew he could be. Now…let’s see if this man can confront Austin Butler‘s Feyd-Rautha. Because that guy was creepy AF and no one is going to change my mind about that.
