Valak is back in The Nun 2 and I can honestly say that I have never cared less for a movie. And this is someone who was absolutely terrified of the none in The Conjuring 2. But her solo movie was garbage, especially for the way that it led us into a false sense of security when it came to the ship in the movie to just give us that ending, and The Nun 2 seems to be following in its footsteps if the official trailer is any indication.
For those that need a recap, The Nun has been part of the conjuring universe since the second movie. And the success of people being terrified of her led to a solo movie. The problem with the solo movie is that it was not scary and just had Valek floating around and being ominous without actually doing anything or hurting anyone. It felt like there were no real consequences and I’m saying this as someone who acknowledges that all the nuns died in the first movie. I just wasn’t scared of her like I was in The Conjuring 2.
Now we have an official trailer for the sequel to that movie and it looks to be the same vibe. Yes we’re glad that Bonnie Aarons, the actress who plays The Nun is back. She’s terrifying. We’re also happy that Taissa Farmiga is back as Sister Irene and that Storm Reid has also joined the cast. They are immeasurable talents and it’s going to be interesting to see what they do with the material in front of them. But I see no real consequences in this trailer besides Reid probably dying because Farmiga is the main character and The Nun surviving whatever happens for her to appear in The Conjuring 2.
