Nicolas Cage really is doing the most with Butcher’s Crossing just dropping its official trailer and now A24 debuting its official trailer for Dream Scenario. But there’s something so special about seeing Cage take on an A24 film. This small studio has blown up in recent years with Everything Everywhere All at Once and BEEF. And to see someone like Cage, who has continuously seen his work questioned because he doesn’t give a fuck what others think and takes on wild projects, actually be in an A24 film…it just feels like this studio recognizing his talent for what it is. Timeless. Weird. And so unapologetically him.
In Dream Scenario, Cage plays Paul, a simple professor living a quiet life. That all changes when he suddenly starts appearing in people’s dreams. That of course piques the curiosity of the public, who have all started seeing him in their dreams. Things take a turn for the worse though when these dreams turn into nightmares and it’s not so much fun and games. People are scared. And you know what people do when they’re scared. They panic, fight back, and try to destroy the thing that haunts their nightmares. The only difference is that Cage’s character is a target of many while being one man.
And I don’t think this is the action kind of movie where he saves himself, the day, and his family. There’s also the fact that Ari Aster, from Midsommar and Hereditary, is a producer for Dream Scenario. That should be enough proof that shit is going to get weird.
