Finally, Airbnb has the perfect place for any Dreamworks fan: Shrek’s Swamp.
Whether there’s a Shrek or Fiona in your life, Airbnb announced on September 26 that they’ll be offering lucky fans an opportunity to stay in the iconic home. First introduced in the 2001 animated film Shrek, the rustic home with an outhouse and outdoor shower belongs to the curmudgeon ogre voiced by Mike Myers.
And it isn’t a vanity project either where they claim it’s the house of Shrek and only did the outside of his home. No, they did the inside too. From the alligator chair to the bed and eyeball martini, it’s spot on what I remember as a kid when it came to Shrek’s Swamp. And it would absolutely piss off Shrek at the thought of anyone staying there. After all, it’s his swamp.
It would piss him off even more to find out that Donkey is the one who listed the house. According to Airbnb, Donkey said, “Wow, it is so nice to meet you. I’m Donkey, and I’m making magic with Airbnb to roll out the welcome mat this October while I’m swamp-sitting for Shrek. I have to be honest – I love everything about the swamp: the boulder out front, the modest interiors, the seclusion (ideal for singing karaoke late into the night), you get the picture. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
As for amenities, Airbnb has it listed as:
– Relax in the ambiance of “earwax candlelight”
– Kick your feet up with a parfait (everybody likes a parfait!)
– Swap stories around the fire until late in the night
– Enjoy a stack of freshly made waffles in the morning
– And of course, enjoy the ultimate privacy of Shrek’s trusted outhouse (you know the one)
Booking opens via Airbnb on October 13 at 6 p.m. BST for one, two-night stay for up to three guests October 27-29. And if anyone is looking for their Fiona or Shrek, hit me up. I’d love to go with a group of friends and unironically watch all the movies there. For science and for my childhood.
