For many Sofia Vergara has been a one-toned kind of actress. She could do comedy with the best of them on Modern Family and she brightens the room and America’s Got Talent. But what she’s doing in Netflix’s Griselda feels like her Joker. Because their transformation in the official trailer is nothing but shocking. And it isn’t even the look, which is definitely more severe. It’s about the way that she carries herself. There is power in every step that she takes and you can see that everyone in the room feels her presence and respects it.
The official trailer also gives us a glimpse of how Griselda developed her kingdom. Or queendom. She didn’t let anyone stop her, even the continuous stream of men who wanted to crush her and her dreams. Because drugs is a male-dominated space. And even though she is a killer and was jailed for drugs in real life, there is something so interesting about the way that Vergara brings her to life and shows that she was many other things. Griselda was a mother, innovator, and one of the only women to really step into this male-dominated space.
