When we’re wrong or there is a possibility that we are wrong, we admit it. We admit it because that’s who are and well, our Mama raised us right. While we’re listening to Glen Powell tell us that the upcoming Twisters movie isn’t a reboot, we are reserving the right to retract anything nice we have to say about the upcoming film.
Look, the original Twister was a classic. It was a good movie that had an amazing cast. And then when we book at the upcoming Twisters film, that has a good cast too. It’s a movie that will most likely be iconic (if done right). But we don’t want a sequel.
Some have said that it’s a sequel. Some have said it’s a reboot. Star Glen Powell told Vogue that it’s neither, “We’re not trying to recreate the story from the first one. It’s a completely original story. There are no characters from the original movie back, so it’s not really a continuation. It’s just its own standalone story in the modern day.”
Okay, okay Glen, we’re hearing what you are saying. He added that filming for the movie had wrapped, and also said (when talking about the original Twister that starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton), “I don’t think anyone has brought up this movie in forever, but talking to people, they’re like, ‘That was one of my favorite movies growing up. That movie terrified me.”
While we don’t agree with him on that, because we know that we’ve talked about it with friends, at work, and so on… but we do agree that movie did terrify us. If there was a tornado warning, you would have found us in the basement, hiding from everyone and everything.
Twister was not about to be real life for us.
“When I was working on Top Gun, Cruise brought up a really interesting thing, where he’s like, ‘If you want to make movies of a certain size and scope and scale, you have to figure out what can connect with everyone around the world in every territory,’” Powell said when talking about the theme of Twisters.
He continued, “And humans-versus-weather is a very universal idea, how powerless we really are in the face of these cataclysmic forces.”
Well, he’s not wrong, wrong. We’re aware that this iteration may also scare the s*** out of us. Hell, the weather outside scares us.
Along with Powell, this iteration also stars, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, and David Corenswet.
Are you looking forward to this version of Twister? Are you also terrified of tornados or is it just us?
