One thing that we love in this world – more than anything – is women standing up for each other and having each other’s backs. It’s so important that we talk about the things that we need, the things that we’ve learned and we be a safe space for other women.
While America Ferrera has been making the awards show press rounds, the actress talked about how Kerry Washington was this woman for her and we’re inspired by it.
See, America was on Superstore and had just had her baby. She had to go back on set when her son, Sebastian, was just 10 weeks old. We all know that going back to work and the possibility of not being around your baby – it’s a lot. Especially at such an important time and so young.
America reached out to Kerry for advice on going back to work. Kerry had her two kids on the set of Scandal and was able to offer America the best advice.
“When I first had my first child, my son, I went back to shoot on Superstore when he was 10 weeks old,” America said about the situation when speaking with People. “I was so lucky to have Kerry Washington as a friend, who had two of her babies while she was on Scandal.”
She continued, “I remember asking her, ‘How do you do it? How are you on a TV show and have a newborn baby? What am I going to do?’. And she gave me the most detailed instructions of every single thing that I was going to do to make my life easier, down to the exact Pack ‘n Play for my trailer.”
She still remembers these moments and the conversations had with Kerry. She finished off by saying, “I think all the time about how many tears and how much energy and how much money and how much trial and error she saved me by just telling me what she learned. And countless times, just in the almost six years that I’ve been a mom, it’s other moms and other women who have saved me and kept me going and kept me feeling like I can do this.”
“She just saved me.”
We love knowing that these women have such a tight bond that they are there for each other. They are supporting each other.
This is how we all should be.
