When Kate Hudson pops up in our inbox, we expect it to be about her upcoming album (which we’re dying to know more about). It’s definitely a pleasant surprise when we get an email that is announcing that Kate Hudson is set to star in a show on Netflix that comes from the mind of the genius that is Mindy Kaling.
And today, that surprise came and we fell out of chair, praising the heavens above for this surprise. Kate Hudson is set to star in an unnamed show that will stream on Netflix.
Kate Hudson joins the series as “Isla Gordon” and will executive produce. In the show Hudson will play, “the only sister in a family of competitive brothers” who has been “overlooked and underappreciated her whole life.”
For Isla, “when a scandal forces her brother to resign, she is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
Where sports may not be something that everyone wants to watch (this writer doesn’t), we will because of these two. A chance to see a woman leading, kicking ass, and taking names? Yes please.
There will be 10 episodes of the yet untitled show, with David Stassen serving as showrunner. The show will be written by Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Netflix’s Never Have I Ever), Ike Barinholtz (History of the World, The Mindy project), and David Stassen (History of the World, The Mindy Project). All three serve as EP’s also.
We’ll be looking forward to more information on this show. For now, two geniuses working together is enough to get us excited.
