For many the books of Judy Blume are a defining part of their childhood. The books influenced who they are, who they were, and their idea of what should be. For me, Judy Blume told me about all of the things that my Mom may not have wanted to say. She would give me books from Judy Blume and tell me how I should ‘just read this’ versus telling me about it herself.
Judy Blume is a prolific writer. One that we can’t help but respect.
The writer has a new book being adapted. The writers book, Forever, is going to be a series on Netflix. Now, one may wonder why not a movie? Well, personally, we’re happy that people are realizing that not everything needs to be a movie. Sometimes a story is best told over a series.
Forever from Judy Blume, has casts its leads. Lovie Simone (Manhunt, Selah & The Spades) and Michael Cooper Jr. (On the Come Up) have been set as the series leads, with Regina King directing the first episode.
According to Tudum, “Simone will play Keisha Clark, a young confident, smart, and fiery track star with clear dreams for life after high school. Meanwhile, Cooper Jr. will portray Justin Edwards, a nerd at heart disguised in an athlete’s body. Justin dreams of playing D1 basketball and achieving more than his successful parents. Love will lead him to who he truly is.”
The official logline states the series is “an epic love story of two Black teens exploring romance and their identities through the awkward journey of being each other’s firsts, set in Los Angeles, 2018.”
We’re definitely excited for this one and can’t wait to learn more.
Have you read Forever? What are your thoughts?
