We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Ashley T.: I recently finished The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for the first time. I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it. It’s got exceptional writing, a great cast, and so much laughter and heart. 10/10 would watch it again. Give it a shot if it passed you by the first time.
Rachel: Bridgerton fans were inundated with a tone of new stills for Part 1 of season 3 this week. A lot of them were quite exciting to see, especially Colin front and center for what looks to be a hero moment with a hot air balloon (???), with Benedict, Will, and some other guys offering an assist. All new Polin stills were a joy but we also got plenty of the other characters as well. Good stuff.
Erin: The only thing that matters this week it TTPD. The Tortured Poets Department is everything. And when she dropped the Anthology. LOST IT. It’s perfection and all I will be talking about this week!
Gissane: I’ve been an absolute mess over the latest episode of Ghosts CBS since I watched the screener last week. How this show makes me laugh out loud to the point where I’m clutching my stomach one minute and then sobbing the next over a huge revelation is no small feat.
Hetty is easily my favorite of the ghosts and we get a big episode with her where Rebecca Wisocky shines so brilliantly that I still can’t put it into words. It’s a heavier episode, but the heart in this show is unquestionable and how things lock into place for characters has had me in my feels all week. Plus, my tiny shipper heart is soaring a little bit and I’ll always take that.
Jasmine: Look, I know it’s not even out yet, but I’m fangirling over Billie Eilish’s upcoming album ‘Hit Me Hard & Soft.’ The track list already has me excited. And the 14 second snippet we got of one of her songs during her interview with Zane Lowe has me asking is it May 17th yet???
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley T.: I think the folks at Paramount+ need to pay for a trip to the doctor for every single Star Trek fan this week with the amount of emotional whiplash they’re giving us! First, we’ve got a renewal for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Hooray! BUT, then they’re canceling Star Trek: Lower Decks. BOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Also, we’re supposed to be getting 2 different Star Trek movies now, one a prequel and the other a sequel to Star Trek: Beyond. THE HECK?! It’s a swirl of emotions. I’ll elaborate further on this soon in a larger article here, so set your hailing frequencies to our Star Trek tag for more info.
Rachel: Unfortunately, Bridgerton season 3 details are possibly leaking as well. I will not acknowledge the concerning leaks from a tabloid this week involving Colin and his…ahem…experiences before Pen. Nope. Not gonna do it. Waiting for May 16 to see season 3 for myself, and hoping the information has been twisted.
Erin: Ummm…when T-Swift about gave me a heart attack at 2am announcing a double album. It was EVERYTHING. I mean my panic attack and tears didn’t appreciate it. But I appreciate my love for Taylor and all of the things I felt and feel listening.
Jasmine: 45s trial and his mockery of the judicial system. That is all.
Brittany: HOW THE FLYING HECK DID CSI: VEGAS GET CANCELLED?!I am using capslock because I am that upset about this. CBS has a procedural that breaks the franchise mold, with characters who have wonderful depth, and a really solid cast, and they cancel it.
I’m glad that we got three seasons out of the show but it deserves a lot more, especially since some of what’s been renewed is nowhere near as complex or interesting. I will now proceed to be sad for the remainder of this (strike-shortened) season.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Ashley T.: I listened to a great interview with Melissa Navia who plays Lt. Ortegas on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds this week on the Open Pike Night podcast this week. First of all, the name of the episode is “Oops! Alltegas!” which is comedy gold. It sent me into a giggle fit!
Next, I’ve listened to interviews with Melissa before and she’s always so thoughtful and thorough in her interviews. This one was no different. She touched on several topics I’d not heard her discuss before like why didn’t we get #MORETEGAS in season 2, what would have been Ortegas’ song in “Subspace Rhapsody”, and would she like to go to space, and more. It’s worth a listen!
Rachel: As usual, when there’s Bridgerton season 3 content, I get to listen to the ‘What A Barb’ podcast ladies discuss it. The trailer was squealed over and dissected in the episode I listened to this week. So much fun to hear while I wait for Polin’s love story.
Erin: Can anyone listen to anything besides TTPD? I mean for real, all 31 songs are on repeat.
Gissane: Yeah, I second Erin. TTPD is all that matters right now. Although I’m also obsessing over Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”
Jasmine: My fave artist PVRIS dropped a new track “Oil and Water” on Wednesday night and I am OBSESSED with it!!! Lynn Gunns vocals are pure magic and the song has a dreamlike quality with the sound. ADORE it!!
What We Rewatched This Week
Ashley T.: Tank Girl. Sorry, not sorry. I needed a comfort movie to relax to this week and this was my choice. I regret nothing.
Rachel: Since Furiosa is coming to theaters next month, I re-watched the first Mad Max film. It’s quite a good, scrappy little action film with effective hero AND villain characters. It’s also interesting in that you can tell the look of director George Miller’s future world is still evolving but he knew he had some details right, like the leather costumes.
Gissane: I passed my screening limit with Ghosts CBS 3×08, which has never happened. But I kept rewatching. Again, it’s such a heavy episode, but there’s so much heart in it that even the dark stuff feels uplifting. And right now, TV is just too grim, so it’s refreshing that even when we get such a heartbreaking revelation, it’s full of love and the kind of found family vibes that always work for me.
Jasmine: Because I’m missing my favorite ship Spencer and Trina (Sprina) on General Hospital, I’ve been rewatching a lot of clips on YouTube and this month is the one year anniversary of when they made it official and became a couple. Then got shipnapped by Spencer’s crazy Uncle Victor. We got great moments during that storyline. They’re my OTP and my comfort couple. Is that a thing? If it’s not, it should be. 🤣
Brittany: I finally got around to rewatching The Code, which if you missed it, was a fun military legal drama with Blindspot’s Luke Mitchell and Chicago Med’s Ato Essandoh. Okay, so this is not the best week for me and CBS.
Badass Character of the Week
Raquel: After years without watching it, I started to return to the NCIS universe and what better way to start than with NCIS: Hawai’i? Jane Tennant is definitely a badass, not only as a boss, but also as a mother, and friend. Love her!
Ashley T.: I’m giving it to Rayner in Star Trek: Discovery 5×04 “Face the Strange.” He learns to soften his edges and listen to others. He even opens up a little bit, which is clearly difficult for him. Good job on working on yourself, Rayner. Keep it up.
Shana: Instead of talking about a badass character, I’m going to cheat and dive into real life. All the gymnasts competing in Fort Worth at the NCAA Championships this weekend are total badasses, and the character of the teams who’ve cheered on the individual athletes rotating with them, even when they’ve had uncharacteristic and crushing meets themselves, is of the highest quality.
Brittany: In lieu of the above cancellation news, I’m giving this to CSI: Vegas executive producer and showrunner Jason Tracey. This dude took something that was originally planned as an event series, could have been just a glorified nostalgia trip, and made it a show that stood on its own for three seasons. That is an incredibly hard task for a writer, and I admire the way he did that and also kept trying to go in new directions. This show has made me a fan of his.
