We finally got a look at Furiosa, the Mad Max movie that acts as a prequel story about Charlize Theron‘s character. And honestly, I’m still not convinced that Anya Taylor-Joy can do this role justice. It’s not like we can compare the actresses. They’re completely different in caliber and rage. And Taylor-Joy has proved herself in movies like The Menu and shows like The Queen’s Gambit. But there is a raw pain about Furiosa as a character that I don’t buy in the first official trailer for the prequel.
In the official trailer, we get to see a young Furiosa, kidnapped from a home that she will spend the rest of her life trying to get back to. We also see how she ends up in the hands of The Immortan Joe and how being barren leads her to end up being one of the fiercest warriors at the Citadel, one of the only surviving areas of the Wasteland. But even as she rages, as she confronts a barely recognizable Chris Hemsworth, there’s a disconnect.
That’s not to say I won’t give it a chance. If Heath Ledger’s Joker has taught me anything it’s no never underestimate someone’s talent or willingness to try something out of the box and do well at it.
Read the synopsis below:
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
