We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Amanda P.: I don’t know if “fangirling” is the right word to describe the intensity of feeling I am having over the Bridgerton Season 3 trailer? Penelope’s glow-up-in-green is absolutely gorgeous, and Colin, well, he’s not so bad either 😉
I cannot wait for all the angst and held gazes and hand touches they’ll be serving up. And making the season poster a view of them looking at each other in a mirror? And the automated Twitter emoji with the Bridgerton hashtag is a carriage? They know what we want! Well done, Netflix. Well done.
(Also, I have to give a round of applause to the cast announcement for American Rep’s Florence Welch-penned Gatsby musical. Positively inspired!!)
Ashley W.: CinemaCon gave us more information about Captain America: Brave New World, and Entertainment Weekly gave us our first look at the movie. Being the Cap fangirl I am, I’m very happy and so excited to see Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) as Cap again and for him to be leading his own movie!
The film won’t be out until next February, but I’ll gladly take whatever content we can get for the time being. It’s been far too long since we’ve seen last seen Sam, and I’m really looking forward to him and Joaquin Torres’s Falcon (Danny Ramirez) team up.
Rachel: EVERYTHING AMANDA SAID. Didn’t I tell you Bridgerton will always be the thing I’m fangirling about when there’s news? Especially for season 3 because it’s my fave couple’s season! The trailer was SO MUCH to deal with! I need Colin longing for Pen like I need air and I’m cautiously optimistic that we will get some of that in Part 1.
All the other Bridgerton goodness we got the same day – stills and poster and carriage hashtag – was just fabulous icing on a delicious cake. Oh please let season 3 live up to the wonderful promotion we’ve had so far, fandom gods. Please.
Brittany: I watch a lot of documentary TV, and I discovered that Disney+ has a show called Ultimate Airport Dubai about the inner workings of the Dubai airport. I’m sure I am now boring our readers to sleep, but it’s surprisingly interesting to watch all of the airport chaos. I had no idea that people can buy flatscreen TVs at duty free. Let alone ten of them. And somehow get them on an airplane.
Ashley T.: Star Trek: Discovery 5×03 “Jinaal” gave me some serious shipper feels this week with Saru and T’Rina. I love them for so many reasons, but more specifically on this episode because their relationship models healthy conflict and communication. More of this on my TV, please!
WTF Moment of the Week
Amanda P.: Going with a good WTF this week because I definitely was surprised but relieved to read that Peter Dinklage will be playing Dr. Dillamond in the Wicked movie. It’s not an intuitive casting, but the more I think about it, the more it works.
Some of the theories that were out there (Idina Menzel in a puppet suit, really?) were downright strange, and some (James Corden) were downright horrifying, so I’m really pleased that this is where the casting ended up. Now let’s see how the costume and/or CGI turns out, though…
Ashley W.: While I’m confident that Chenford will ultimately be fine, I am still upset and saying, “WTF?!” at The Rookie episode 6×06: “Secrets and Lies,” especially considering the fact that ship is the reason I decided to watch the show.
Brittany: I keep hoping that Law & Order will get better, especially because now it has both Hugh Dancy and Tony Goldwyn. But this week’s episode “Family Ties” was another disappointment. The plot felt very forced and as someone who lives with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, it was so uncomfortable.
The episode even made me dislike Hugh’s character Nolan Price, who’s normally the smartest person on the show. Even he was coming off like a bit of a jerk. I have such fond memories of this series, but I think I finally have to accept that it’s changed since the revival.
Ashley T.: X-Men ‘97 1×05 “Remember It” about broke me this week. No spoilers from me because you MUST watch it. Suffice to say I did a lot of swearing at my TV. Absolutely could not believe what I was seeing. Nothing is off the table now with this show.
Lizzie: No, no, and no. I cannot even talk about what X-Men 97′ did this week. I need 5-7 business days to process it. I’m just …no. I refuse. No. This is a comic book show, so no. Fix it. No.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Amanda P.: I’ve written about how much I love the Noble Blood podcast before, but this week, I wound up listening to an affiliated podcast, Very Special Episodes. Their episode about the Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark debacle was tailor-made for my Broadway-baby heart, especially now, in the heart of what is shaping up to be a fabulously messy Broadway season.
Amanda W.: I currently have “espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter on repeat, and it’s definitely song of the summer material! The pop hits keep coming!
Ashley W.: I started this week listening to “For Her/My Green Light” from The Great Gatsby on Broadway (not to be confused with the aforementioned Gatsby in the “Fangirling” section) and “The Heart of Rock and Roll” by the Broadway cast of The Heart of Rock and Roll, which makes my Broadway, Corey Cott, Jeremy Jordan, and Eva Noblezada fangirl heart happy. And I will now be ending the week listening to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” on repeat, because the vibes are perfect and definitely get me in the summer mood.
Rachel: More Bridgerton news means more eps of the “What A Barb” Polin podcast to discuss it. This one covered last week’s promo videos and the recent stills of Pen with Lord Debling. I know I say this a lot but these girls love Polin and they have a great rapport that makes all their eps entertaining. I can’t wait for the trailer discussion!
Brittany: It’s been a really rough week, so I went back to an artist who’s gotten me through some tough times before. Ellen Winter has a fresh single called “New Roommate” and she’s posted on Instagram about the story behind it. I love Ellen’s music for how open and unapologetic it is, and once again she had me feeling and feeling a little bit better about myself. (Then I went and watched her music video for “Mantras” again because it still makes me giggle with the IKEA jokes.)
Ashley T.: I put the soundtrack for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2×09 “Subspace Rhapsody” back in my rotation this week. I’ve been working on “How Would That Feel” for an upcoming voice recital, and man, does that soundtrack just slap. I can’t believe how lucky the Star Trek fandom is to have such a talented cast like this. I’m not going to be opposed if they ever want to do another musical episode. Or if they just want to have our crew randomly sing for any reason. Let’s do it!
What We Rewatched This Week
Ashley W.: April 8 marked the 10th anniversary of one of the best, most important, monumental episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., episode 1×17: “Turn, Turn, Turn.” That said, I couldn’t let the day go by without doing an honorary rewatch of it. I wouldn’t forgive my AoS-loving self if I did. I won’t go into further details as to why this episode is so crucial and worthy of a anniversary rewatch, but if you know, YOU KNOW.
As has been the case with the countless rewatched I’ve done, “Turn, Turn, Turn” hits every single time. Even knowing what’s coming, the episode is just as captivating and emotional as it was the first time. I also can no longer think or say the word “turn” without panicking because of this episode.
Rachel: I rewatched 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes this week. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is coming up soon and I needed to refresh this story in my memory. It’s quite a good start to the new era of this franchise. Andy Serkis’ motion-capture performance as Caesar is incredible.
Brittany: There were some good The First 48 reruns on A&E this week. My favorite episode “House of Cards” featuring Justin Ritter was back, plus we got “End Game” and “Fire & Fury” featuring Glenn Barton. I appreciate episodes where there’s some humor to show that homicide detectives are people, too, and that it doesn’t take away from the work they do.
And these two are two of my all-time favorites from the show. I wish I was as cool as Ritter, but I’m really just a giant nerd like Barton. (Ritter gave me a compliment again this week though, so there’s that?!)
Ashley T.: I revisited The Sandlot this week for an upcoming episode of The Video Store Podcast, and man, that is such a perfect movie. I loved it as a kid, but I think it’s even funnier as an adult. It hits differently. If you’ve not seen it since you were a kid, it’s worth checking out again.
Badass Character of the Week
Amanda P.: I’m just going to use this space to shout out the cast of Star Trek: Discovery in their final season. I’m not deep enough in Trek lore to understand every detail, but I’m deep enough in internet-land to know Discovery has been controversial for some fans. I just really enjoy it as a rip-roaring space adventure with some great, badass characters, though.
Ashley W. X-Men ‘97 episode 1×05: “Remember It.” Mon chéri Gambit. That is all.
Rachel: I’m just gonna say Penelope Featherington this week because the trailer for Bridgerton season 3 really showed how much she is fighting to do something active and move forward in her life despite getting constantly knocked down and rejected. That’s truly badass to me. Shondaland can never make me hate her!
Brittany: I’m cheating again, but I got to interview Rudy Reyes (from Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, SAS: Who Dares Wins and Generation Kill) this week for his new TV series, and this man is not only a kickass soldier but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed our conversation.
I expected to learn something from him because I admire his service and am a Special Forces fan, but we actually have a lot in common. I’m really glad I got the chance to meet him and now I’m even more excited for everyone to see the interview.
Ashley T.: Gotta agree with my fellow Ashley on this one. Gambit in X-Men ‘97. Such a baller move. Now excuse me while I go cry some more.
