We’ve seen plenty of superheroes before, but LANTERNS already has a vibe that stands out. It looks darker, stranger, and way more grounded than expected—and honestly, we’re ready to see where this story goes. Particularly considering we’d love to forget that other Green Lantern movie. Yeah, that one. The one even the actors involved know is kinda bad. And not even kinda bad in a so bad it’s good way.
So, we’ll admit we’re excited about this new iteration. Especially because it’s not going to focus on Hal Jordan. Or at least, not on a young Hal Jordan.
The show stars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas. The LANTERNS pilot was co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series.
Mundy serves as showrunner. The first two episodes are directed by James Hawes, with Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov also tapped to direct. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes.
The Plot:
The official synopsis for LANTERNS Season 1 is: “The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
