This week’s episode of 9-1-1 focused on locating a missing girl. “Ghost of a Second Chance” also introduces a new character, and Eddie sees (or at least thinks he sees someone from his past). Let’s review.

Helping Catherine
”Ghost of a Second Chance” begins with Maddie getting a 9-1-1 call from a frightened Catherine who has been taken hostage along with her baby. This call definitely shakes Maddie since it’s so close to what happened to her. Catherine’s found quickly, but her baby is still missing.
The 118 quickly jumps into action to figure out who the kidnapper is. At first, Maddie thinks Catherine’s husband is the one behind it, but after listening to the 9-1-1 call again with Chimney, she realizes Catherine had a stalker.
Everyone (including Romero – nice to see him again) works together to find the baby and the stalker before he successfully kidnaps another mom. This guy needs serious help, and we hope he spends a long time behind bars for all of the trauma he caused. But most importantly, we’re glad that the baby was found and this story had a happy ending. We also have to commend Maddie for going back and listening to the call so she could get more information. We know that couldn’t have been easy.
We’re also curious about one of the nurses who helped Catherine at the hospital. Amir, played by the fabulous Malcolm-Jamal Warner, connected with Maddie immediately. He seems to have a sad past, and considering the burns on his face and how he reacted to Bobby, we definitely think there’s a story there. And we’re very much looking forward to seeing it play out.

Eddie’s Weird Storyline
Yes, we’re going with that title because this story is weird. Eddie sees someone who looks exactly like Shannon (and the actress is the same), and he spends the rest of the episode thinking about both Shannon and her look-a-like. We understand that Shannon will always be a part of Eddie’s life, but why did the show decide to introduce a character that looks just like her? Eddie even goes on a date with her at the end of the episode (and lies to Buck about who he’s meeting).
It’s not like we’re invested in Eddie and Marisol’s relationship. Frankly, we’d be happy if they broke up because we think they’re boring. But Eddie going on a date with someone who looks just like his dead wife isn’t healthy. This isn’t the story we want for Eddie. And we honestly wonder what the writers were thinking here. We hope Eddie figures out what he’s doing before he introduces this woman to Christopher.

Update on Mara
We got to check in on Hen and Karen’s family this week which we loved. Mara seems to be doing better about talking especially to Denny. Through Denny and the social worker, Hen and Karen discover Mara has a half brother named Tyson.
At first, Tyson’s father is against Mara spending anytime with him. And look, we get that he’s concerned about his son. But we’re glad his partner brought Tyson over to Karen and Hen’s to spend time with Mara. We think it’s best for everyone for Mara to get to know her brother. We’re so proud of Hen and Karen for going the extra mile to locate Tyson’s father. They’re really great parents, and Mara (and Denny) is lucky to have them.
