We’ve said it before and we will say it again – “If Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie are adapting it, we will watch.”
We live by that.
The series, We Were Liars, which is inspired by E. Lockhart’s novel of the same name, comes from Julie Plec, Carina Adly MacKenzie, Universal Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie reuniting for a show? Yes, you had our attention with that. Casting Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Candice King? We were already hooked (also because we’re read the novel).
There are times where we are in awe of casting and times where we are not. Sometimes we don’t get it and sometimes casting falls together so beautifully. In the case of We Were Liars – we get it, we love it, and it definitely fits together so beautifully. The latest additions to the cast have us believing in and bowing down at the altar of Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie.
Emily Alyn Lind, Esther MacGregor, and Joseph Zada, as well as newcomer Shubham Maheshwari are set as series regulars for the show.
Lind will play Cadence. She’s the eldest granddaughter of the Sinclair family and has a knack for story telling. She’s dramatic and adventurousness. She falls in love for the first time and is excited to spend the summer with her closest friends. She’s unaware that just a year later – she will be a fraction of the person that she used to be. She’s sufferred a traumatic brain injury and is on a quest to figure out what happened. Only unraveling what has happened could unravel the mystique of her family.
MacGregor will play Mirren. She’s an artist who is so worried about being perfect and is afraid to ruffle feathers. She wants new experiences, but clings to her childhood. Unless she knows that she can do something perfectly and excel at it – she’s not interested. Only, the thing is, sometimes you can’t control what you stumble across and when it’s a big secret, what can you do?
Zada will play Johnny. He’s the type of guy who thinks that because he’s got money, he’s invincible and doesn’t need to be held accountable for anything. Only this summer, hes about to be held accountable and like most of us, he’s not a fan of that.
Maheshwari is Gat. Gat feels a little out of place amongst the elite of the New York City world. He is thoughtful and ambitious and has so much love for his best friend. This summer seems like his best friend may have feelings for him too. What could be better than that? A lot of things. Because when you’re holding a big secret everything could change.
We are so excited for this show! This casting is amazing. We can’t wait for more!
