Netflix just released their first trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4 and if anything, we’ve got a lot of questions. Season 3 absolutely tore apart these siblings. We thought Luther was dead and then got the shocker he wasn’t. Allison truly entered her villain era and bopped off to be with her husband and daughter. Sloane is nowhere to be found. Oh and let’s no forget they don’t have powers anymore. So we’ve got questions. Here are 5 of them with a bunch of theories mixed in.
1. Wait, Allison is back in the mix?
After the events of season 3, I will be the first to admit that I was done with Allison. Because while I appreciate a woman getting the nuance that she has gotten throughout the series, she crossed the line with me when it comes to consent. That’s why I was so surprised that the teaser trailer immediately threw Allison into the mix. This means that a long time has passed since the events of season 3. Enough time where the siblings feel comfortable enough to be joking with each other and go on a rescue mission together. But not enough time to fix everything because Allison is still working on things if this angry scene says anything and her looking grumpy in the car. Despite all of that, I’m interested to see where her character goes and if she’s found the happiness she’s been looking for.
2. Why is Five hugging a crying Lila?
Five and Lila are hands down one of my favorite duos on The Umbrella Academy. They’re always picking at each other and there is the fact that he killed her parents. Nevertheless, they’re family. You can see that in the way that both of them fought to get into the front seat in the van. But you can also see that in the way that Five held her while she was crying. It looks like they are in some sort of underground train station that we see featured in the teaser trailer. And I’m wondering if the crying comes before or after they walk out into an apocalypse like world. With Lila being the tough as nails woman that we know, it had to be the loss of Diego and the rest of her found family that broke her. And Five, being the good brother he is, he’ll probably do everything in his power to never see her that broken again.
3. Who are they rescuing?
Right off the bat, I think that the gang is going to rescue Sloane. There’s no one else that this group cares about that much and that is missing. Plus, if this was about Claire then Allison would be in a more commanding position. If anything we don’t really notice the fact that Luther is all the way in the back, hidden and kind of hunched into himself. Because that man has not gone on to be an astronaut like the teaser trailer tries to make us believe. That suit was cheap. If anything, he’s either doing birthday parties or bachelorette parties. And if there’s anything that’s going to pull them together again it’s family.
4. What have they been doing since the end of season 3?
The teaser trailer for season 3 dropped a lot of clues about what our found family has been doing. Viktor is working at a bar. Klaus is doing his same old shaman spiritual leader thing. Diego has grown a glorious mustache and seems to be playing family with Lila, complete with birthday parties. Sparrow Ben apparently went to jail. That’s where the clues of what they’ve been doing stop and the questions begin. Because what is Five doing that he’s still so put together? And what has Alison been up to that has left them so angry? She got everything she wanted at the end of season 3. But by the time that we reunite with the Hargreeves, I have no doubt she lost it again.
5. What’s the next apocalypse?
Reginald is going to do anything that he has to to keep this world going, especially if it has his wife in it. But world ending events keep following this family. And I personally think in trying to stop his children, Reginald is going to start the next apocalypse. Because this alien has planned contingencies and you can see that in how he has the siblings strapped in with this weird headgear, as if he’s trying to harness their powers again. Or it can be the Temps Agency, madder than ever and ready to keep the timeline going in it’s “rightful” direction. Whatever it is, the apocalypse is here again.
