We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Ashley T.: Star Trek: Discovery 5×10 “Life, Itself” blessed my shipper heart many times. Big thank you to the showrunners for not sinking my ships like so many other shows have done before. *gestures wildly in Jaime and Brienne*
Rachel: The newest film in the Mad Max franchise was a thrilling watch for me this week. Furiosa has a lead character who is hard to beat, Chris Hemsworth is excellent as the villain, and the film looks incredible.
Ashley W.: Emerald City has been brickified! When LEGO and the Wicked movie teased something to come, I figured it would just be a first look at its collaboration. But it was actually the entire Wicked movie trailer in LEGO form, and it’s wonderful! The time and effort it took to match the actual trailer frame by frame, movement by movement is astonishing. Now what’s the chance we can get an entire Wicked LEGO movie?
Amanda W.: What Ashley W. said!
WTF Moment of the Week
Ashley T.: People are still complaining about Star Trek: Discovery? Please take a seat, take yourself to counseling, touch grass, go volunteer at an animal shelter and pet some puppies, and for the love of all that is holy, find a new hobby.
Rachel: I was very disappointed that the Memorial Day weekend box office this year was so low. Moviegoing has its drawbacks, of course, and always has but the art form of film deserves for the work of filmmakers to be seen the way it was intended. And that’s usually not on a TV screen.
Ashley W.: In the season 2 finale of Apple TV+’s Loot (spoiler alert!), I was disappointed but not surprised by the reveal of the cult of absurdly rich people who have banded together over their own self-interests of maintaining their unnecessary wealth. But the ridiculousness of the situation and how it played out still made me yell “WTF?!” at my TV. Their outfits felt like something out of Riverdale, which just further elevated the strangeness of it all.
Lizzie: Look, I’m TORN here. Because I get the whole “do not make the same mistakes” Kool-Aid Eddie is drinking and why he’s letting his son Christopher go spend the summer with his grandparents in the 9-1-1 finale.
But, on the other hand, Christopher is 13 and he’s throwing a tantrum over Eddie – who is actually a pretty good dad – making a mistake. And I get it, he’s a kid. But even at 13, the lesson can just be hey, we don’t run away when things get rough. We stay, talk them through, face them, learn from them. Even when it’s tough, you stay with the people you love.
Also, ALSO, Eddie’s parents kinda suck. I know they’ve gotten marginally better and like if we compare them against the rest of the 118 they look decent and all, but they seemed pretty eager to take Eddie’s kid! They never seem to appreciate Eddie for who he is. All the Latino judgment coming from Ramon. No, I couldn’t take it. I see you, Ramon. I see you.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Ashley T.: It’s been a 90s R&B kind of week for me—Mariah Carey, Faith Evans, TLC, Lauryn Hill, En Vogue, and Salt-n-Pepa all kept me belting. Kept me grooving while I was doing not-as-fun things, like cleaning the house and working.
Ashley W.: Most of the time, I’ll skip the opening credits of TV shows, but One Tree Hill is an exception because you simply do not skip over Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want To Be.” So that song, which I’d consider an all-time favorite, has been on repeat a lot as of late as I make my way through an OTH rewatch.
Amanda W.: Friday gave me a couple of new things to listen to, including two remixes of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” the cast recording for the new Broadway musical, Illinoise, and the new Aaron Tveit in the live concert recording of the 80th anniversary Rodgers and Hammerstein concert, My Favorite Things.
What We Rewatched This Week
Ashley T.: I had to go back and rewatch Abbott Elementary 3×14 “Party.” Janine’s party organization made me laugh, Pirate Barbara had me rolling, and OMG FINALLY, GREGORY!!
Rachel: Of course for me, it’s part 1 of season 3 of Bridgerton! Yes, STILL. Or at least the most romantic and funny scenes between Polin, of which there are thankfully quite a few. I want to store up the positive vibes of these scenes to see me through the inevitable Shondaland drama crap that’s sure to be coming in part 2.
Ashley W.: It’s that time of the year again: when I rewatch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 7 on the anniversary of each episode’s air date. Four years have passed since the season 7 premiere of AoS, and it reminded me of how fun and how much of a necessary change of pace the time travels through the past were. Incorporating real history into Marvel has always been something I’ve enjoyed, too, so seeing Phil Coulson nerd out over meeting Franklin D. Roosevelt is always amusing and such a treat.
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley T.: Hands down Mr. Saru in Star Trek: Discovery 5×10 “Life, Itself.” The man didn’t have to throw a single punch and he won. Action Saru, indeed.
Rachel: That would be Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa in Furiosa. Witness her!
Lizzie: I’m not saying I agree with all of Athena’s decisions in the 9-1-1 finale (one of these days, it would be really good if she thought things through, communicated with someone, and took some backup), but I would never dare stand against her, I am saying that. Also, Angela Bassett. That is all. Angela Bassett.
