We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Erin: I have been reading a lot this week and TBH, I have been reading a lot of Elle Kennedy. I just love her books. I also read my best friends book that comes out in July and have been crying over that. So, I guess books. Lots of books.
Amanda P.: Hello, Abbott Elementary friends, how are we feeling? The secret to a great slowburn is knowing when to pay it off, and Abbott has managed that perfectly. The end of the season finale gave us the Gregory/Janine moment we’ve been waiting for, along with another casually romantic line. “I fixed your light” is right up there with “I take all of your recommendations seriously. I want to know why you like stuff.”
Shana: Difficult to choose between literally everything about our introduction to the Théâtre des Vampires and literally everything about the Evil season premiere. So, I won’t choose. I refuse. You can’t make me.
Rachel: I’m still on a Polin high from part 1 of Bridgerton season 3. I’m trying to offset the agony that Shondaland has set up for Part 2 by focusing on the first kiss, the dream, longing Colin, the carriage scene, all that goodness.
Ashley T.: I am super impressed with the Flannery O’Connor biopic Wildcat, starring Maya Hawke. It’s a wonderful film told through Flannery’s stories. The aesthetics reminded me of Big Fish. Definitely check it out if you want a thoughtful film that is a little weird and a lot wonderful.
Ashley W.: Chris Evans using “second-best Chris” and Mark Ruffalo choosing “friend from work” to describe Chris Hemsworth (by way of Robert Downey Jr.) during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony makes my original six Avengers-loving, Marvel fangirl heart so happy.
WTF Moment of the Week
Erin: I feel like Wolf Entertainment has been cleaning house across franchises this season OR they’ve pissed off everyone and that’s why their actors are leaving. BUT my WTF is the FBI: International season finale. How they wrote out Scott Forrester made me furious.
Lizzie: Well, Chicago P.D. takes the cake for me. I already knew I wasn’t going to be happy with how they wrote out Hailey, but to make her final episode about Voight and a fictional father/daughter relationship they apparently had in someone’s imagination (but never on the show!) feels like adding insult to injury.
Shana: Hi, yes. What Lizzie said. Also, I would like to add that if they didn’t bring Halstead back because they wanted to make it about Hailey instead of a ship…why didn’t they make it about Hailey instead of Voight then??? Just saying!
Rachel: For a GOOD moment of WTF this week, the viewing numbers for part 1 of Bridgerton season 3 being the best for the whole series is wild.
Ashley T.: I’m still mad as hell about the inaccuracies and the way Amy Winehouse was misrepresented in Back to Black. I’m even madder that the film basically sought to absolve the men in her life of their role in Amy not getting the help she needed. My tears dry on their own.
Ashley W.: I can’t say I’m surprised by any of the things that Ramona did in the season 3 finale of The Cleaning Lady. But (spoiler alert!) I was still yelling “WTF?!” at my TV when she stabbed Nadia — not to mention her plans to also sell out her brother, Jorge, AND then take his daughter/her niece for herself.
Jasmine: Once again my WTF involves my soap opera General Hospital. The weird dismantling of my girl Ava Jerome (Maura West) is weird and makes absolutely no sense. She’s been turned into public enemy number one for reasons unknown.
She’s keeping the secret that Sonny’s bipolar medication has been tampered with because she likes that he’s dependent on her?? And now we find out she is the reason Alexis lost her law license??? None of the writing for her character at this juncture makes sense and I hate it. We know nothing of the reasons for the weird Sonny obsession she has and that’s all because of bad writing.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Erin: I need something to listen to. I’ve gotta stop just having the news on in the background – it’s not good for my anxiety.
Amanda P.: I’m getting my in-between-Bridgerton romance fix with the latest episode of Fated Mates. I listened to their new “weddings” episode this week and, honestly, I had forgotten how many romance books I love involve some sort of wedding premise or subplot!
Ashley T.: It’s been a lot of podcast catch-up for me this week, but I keep finding myself relistening to the Video Store Podcast. It’s a great way to get movie recommendations and learn about films you may have missed. Full disclosure: you can hear yours truly on the show.
Ashley W.: I’m obsessed with the fact that, for her Saturday Night Live performance, Sabrina Carpenter changed one of the lyrics in “Feather” to “I’m on SNL, and you’re not!” What an iconic move!
Jasmine: Still playing Billie Eilish’s new album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft.’ It’s so good. Plus with this gloomy weather we’ve been having in California lately, it fits the mood.
What We Rewatched This Week
Shana: Does it count as a “rewatch” if I replayed Kristen all being like “we are fine” at David somewhere in the ballpark of (magic number) 38 times?
Rachel: Since Furiosa is coming up soon, I rewatched Mad Max: Fury Road and was blown away all over again by the action sequences and the way director George Miller incorporated the female characters.
Ashley T.: Introduced a buddy of mine to Tank Girl this week. She’d had a tough week and it was the perfect antidote. Highly recommended for girls night.
Ashley W.: I’m on season 2 of my One Tree Hill rewatch, and I’ve been reminded of two things: This show truly had the best music, and Felix was TERRIBLE. Also, special shoutout to Jake Jagielski, because he deserves so much love.
Jasmine: I keep watching reruns of Cops. I don’t know why. It’s literally like background noise when I’m doing things in my room. Could be because my dad used to watch it all the time. But, as an adult I’m watching it with new eyes and catching things I wouldn’t have thought of as a kid.
Badass Character of the Week
Erin: The Fly Team and Brian Lange. IYKYK! I have my issues with FBI: International, but I still love the cast and characters. Also Colin Donnell as Brian Lange was really great.
Shana: Daniel Molloy. It takes real badassery to taunt any vampire, much less two of them — especially when one is as powerful and unafraid to use that power as Armand. And to do it over their, uh, shared ex…yeah. Badass. Stupid? Sure. But badass — and hilarious AF.
Amanda P.: I have been loving how Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday fits so neatly into the classic Doctor Who companion mold. She’s not an “action heroine” or a Doctor fangirl, but rather someone whose heart makes her brave, bold, and curious. Last week, she handled a literal landmine situation with aplomb, and I can’t wait to see how this character continues to unfold this season.
Ashley T.: I’m giving it to Adira in Star Trek: Discovery 5×09 “Lagrange Point.” They stepped out of their comfort zone and jumped into a dangerous situation to help their crew. Amazing job, kiddo. 🖖
Ashley W.: In the season 6 finale of The Rookie, Lucy Chen jumped from the driver’s seat of the shop to the back of a pickup truck. Talk about badassery! So I have no choice but to feature her!
Jasmine: I agree with Shana on this. Daniel taunting Louis and Armand was messy and brave. It was also highly encouraging when he threw on that theme song for Young and the Restless. Because hey, let’s face it, Louis and Armands relationship is pretty soapy.
