We’re here one last time! The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan” closes the season with an explosive and action-packed episode in which Chenford is once again the key point. Ready?
Here we go!
Sometimes Less is More in The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan”

Look, we’re not going to say that this season’s big case hasn’t made us scream on more than a few occasions. That moment of Angela on the ground, Tim being beaten almost unconscious, and Lucy jumping from one truck to another to save Tim…definitely had us on the edge of our seats and even worried about Nolan! However, after watching The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan” and having the full picture, we reaffirm what we said last week.
They wanted to make this whole thing so big that it ended up deflating along the way into a hodgepodge of characters, some known and others not, who ended up being united under a confusing and diffuse connection. And that takes away from the impact of what’s happening to the characters we know and, actually, care about.
As if that weren’t enough, in the end, we never knew or understood what the purpose of all this was and that’s a problem. Everything would have been better if they had made it smaller, but more surprising.
Furthermore, we don’t understand the reason for this change in Monica. Yeah, she represents criminals and yeah, she is shady but she was never evil. We believe that the character would work better in the show as the shady lawyer who makes things difficult for Wesley and the Department instead of as a criminal on the run as she ends up being at the end of The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan.”
Transcendental Conversations in The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan”

The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan” changed things for Chenford. The first conversation to take into account is the one that happens in the car. Most of it is teasing and small flirtations — almost without realizing it, as if it were natural — which reminds us of how things were before they were a thing, which is fine because they are starting to feel comfortable around the another again, even though the wounds haven’t yet healed and the latent pain is felt in the environment. But it’s a start.
However, what’s most important about this scene is that Tim makes sure Lucy knows that he is seeing a psychologist. That went terribly wrong but Tim wants to let Lucy know that her words didn’t fall on deaf ears, but that he heard her and took her into account.
At the same time, Tim is recognizing that therapy is a good thing for him and that he plans to continue with it. This time, Tim is not going to keep all his feelings to himself, but he is going to deal with them and heal.
The elevator conversation that happens at the end of The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan” is a continuation of that scene. In the car scene, after things got serious, the two avoided going too far and deep with it by making jokes, but in this scene, the jokes stopped. They’re having what is closest to the serious conversation they need to have about what happened. They’re having the only conversation that both are capable of having right now.
“I Love You” Is Out of Fashion for Chenford

At first, Tim admits to Lucy that he knows he screwed up everything between them, and thanks her for standing by him despite it. Here, Tim is telling Lucy more than meets the eye. He is acknowledging to Lucy that he is broken and that he is aware of it, but that he is working on it. This speaks of character growth.
In the next part of The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan” scene, Tim makes it clear to Lucy that he hopes she will be in his life forever and that he is going to work to earn a place in her life again, to the extent that she let him. This means that if one day Lucy is ready to forgive him and give him another chance, Tim will be there, but if she never is, he will still be there too, by her side. Because it’s HER choice, and Tim is recognizing that.
Lucy is still too hurt to consider anything that Tim is telling her but, of course, it’s a beginning to know that he is not going to give up, but that he will respect whatever she decides.
This is not a romantic statement in the strict sense, and in some ways it is. They still love each other, but sometimes love isn’t enough, and after everything blows up, Chenford needs time and space to heal and find their way together again. So this is the best and the only thing we can have right now: know that they are not going to give up on each other. Hope.
Other Stuff in The Rookie 6×10 “Escape Plan”

- The Rookie: Feds team – almost – in full! We missed them…
- We’re sorry, but if Nolan wanted to appear to be a hero, he was just an idiot who put everyone in danger… and ended up facilitating Monica’s escape.
- If they wanted Blair to pity us, they failed miserably. For that, we should have known her more.
- We’re not sure we’d like Bailey’s crazy ex-husband to be out of jail again, but we’re definitely open to seeing what happens in season 7.
- Oscar out of jail is what we’re here for!
- Did Chenford break a bed or did we misunderstand?
- “You will never know how much I appreciate the kindness you’ve shown me, and I will spend the rest of my life trying to pay it back.” BYE.
- Lucy saved her man.
- Tim thinking about Lucy first.
- Lucy glances at Tim in that elevator…
- We need season 7 right now! That will be the season where Chenford finds their way back to each other. Mark our words.
