We definitely look forward to anything that comes from the mind of Mindy Kaling. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, she’s a genius. She just gets it. She also gets the people that we want to see in the shows she creates, so yes, we squealed when Kate Hudson was announced as leading the cast.
And then with every announcement the cast just kept getting better and better.
In addition to Hudson, also starring in Running Point are Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Max Greenfield, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada and Dane DiLiegro.
And now, another addition. Jay Ellis (Insecure) has been added in a recurring role. He will play Jay Brown, a former celebrated player and now the zen coach of the Waves. The way he approaches coaching, his zen like attitude, has led the team to many championships.
The official logline of the series gives us some insight to what it is about, “When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon is appointed President of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business. Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.”
There will be 10 episodes of the show, with David Stassen serving as showrunner. The show will be written by Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, The Sex Lives of College Girls, Netflix’s Never Have I Ever), Ike Barinholtz (History of the World, The Mindy Project), and David Stassen (History of the World, The Mindy Project). All three serve as EP’s also. Lakers’ Jordan Rambis is a producer.
We can’t wait for Running Point. Are you excited for it? Tell us all the things!
