Maybe one day we will start and NCIS: Origins article without saying that NCIS: Hawai’is cancellation was a travesty of justice. One day, maybe. No one asked for NCIS: Origins (and if you did, well, we’re not sure why), but we also know that it is not the casts fault that it is coming to be. So as we journey on this salty moment for a hot second please know that we are not bashing them. Just reiterating feelings to CBS.
We did become less hostile against NCIS: Originas after their presentation at the 2024 Television Critics Association Tour. We will admit that we love Austin Stowell, so there is that, so we went in with a little bit of an open mind. Two additions to the cast were announced – Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan.
Petty will play an assistant medical examiner (think Jimmy Palmer type character) and Moynihan a lead forensic analyst.
NCIS: Origins takes place in 1991, years before the events of NCIS. The show follows a young Gibbs, who is part of the NIS Camp Pendleton office, where he and his team and led by Mike Franks.
“This is Gibbs dealing with the loss of his wife and child. This is not the Gibbs that the world knows as the team leader who’s always put together,” explained Stowell at the TCA tour. “This is someone who is broken, who is trying to find his identity. Mark did come up to me and said two words, ‘trust yourself.’”
The show received a straight to series order for the 2024 – 2025 season.
