‘Too Hot to Handle’ Season 6 Review: Not Even Worth Being Called a Dumpster Fire

Too Hot to Handle season 6 is insufferable. As a long time viewer of this dumpster fire of a show, I know it’s not exceptional TV. But it is entertaining TV. That’s changed though in the last couple of seasons. And this sixth season feels like a TikTok reality show instead of the dumpster fire that I’ve come to love. The only saving grace that season 6 has is the editing. But that’s something we’ll get to later on in the review. Because right now, this is the final nail in the shows coffin.

For the longest time, the best thing that Too Hot to Handle had going for it is that people didn’t know what kind of show they were on. The show has absolutely blown up since season 1 and I understand that it must be hard to keep that secret from your contestants. But previous seasons have brought on Mario Lopez or fake hosts to sell this show before turning things on the contestants. It’s a bit cheesy but it adds to the ridiculous charm of the show. Dumping that and just them immediately knowing what show they’re on, feels performative and I don’t believe them for one second when they say that they’re tempted and can’t believe they can’t have sex. 

We as the audience know that these contestants on Too Hot to Handle have signed up for this show. And to fill that void of ridiculousness the show has decided to bring a Bad Lana onto the scene. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work. Because these contestants are clearly here to become the next influencer. There is no shock, awe, or inherent feeling of honesty to their reactions or actions. And I know that this is a reality TV show and that a lot of it is scripted. I also know that no matter if they knew they were on Too Hot to Handle or not, it’s all about the influencer game. But if you can’t sell it for 5 minutes, how am I supposed to believe it for a whole season? 

The cast is also boring. There is no bombshell that stands out and it feels repetitive with a side of “Am I watching Netflix or a TikTok house with a bunch of stale influencers?” There’s also no one who’s messy. Previous seasons have had messy people like Harry, Francesca, and Christine. Or they’ve had other contestants like Harry and Beaux, who’s instant chemistry drew you in. There’s even the meme worthy ones like Chase and that roach that landed on his head. There is unfortunately none of that in season 6 of Too Hot to Handle. 

The one shining hope of this season is the editing. It’s like they knew that the cast wasn’t charming, messy, or memorable enough and they put the editing up to a thousand percent. Those introductions were trashy and had sus editing with animal noises and people humping boards. And the drama of Bad Lana coming on to the scene had me rolling my eyes while asking for her to be even more chaotic. Cuz I don’t think she was chaotic at all, especially in the editing department. I also really liked the way some scenes were shot and the music in the background. It was all a choice. A messy choice at that. And it sucks that this was the best part of season 6. 

At this point, season 6 of Too Hot to Handle is so insufferably boring, repetitive, and mediocre that it’s not even worth watching the rest of the season for the trash elements of it. And as someone who loves trash, this human raccoon is disappointed.
