Between the summer Olympics and San Diego Comic Con, our plates are kind of full. There are no complaints over here for that, because we are excited for both. And while most of our attention is on San Diego Comic Con, we’ve stopped and directed all attention to what is happening with the Wicked movie promo in Paris.
“First stop on the way to Emerald City: the Paris Olympics! #WickedMovie,” the official Wicked movie Instagram account posted. And how is it happening? Well that’s easy.
The amazing custom train built for the Wicked movie/musical was sent to Paris. Yes, that train isn’t CGI. It’s real. It was spotted heading right by the Eiffel Tower.
And it is f**king amazing.
Some will say that it was fake, but in the newly released behind the scenes featurette, we learned about a lot of things that we actually built and not just CGI.
Director John Chu said, “We knew that we wanted Wicked to be immersive. What’s it feel like to be in Oz? To feel it in your fingertips. If you want to be inside that world, you got to build it. You got to build Emerald City. You got to build Munchkinland.”
In the featurette we get to see actors such as Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode and Ethan Slater.
Munchkinland, Emerald City and The Yellow Brick Road – we want to be there. Wicked: Part One will hit theaters on November 22, 2024, with the second installment of the film to follow on November 26, 2025.
