Fangirlish attended the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. With it came attending a panel for the return of one of our favorite shows ever, Wynonna Earp: Vengeance. Well, maybe not return. More of a reboot. And the 90-minute special, according to showrunner Emily Andras, would explore, “what happens after happily ever after? And what success looks like?” Because these versions of Wynonna, Waverly, Doc, Nicole, and Jeremy are a little older and wiser. But they’re still “so good looking” with plenty stories to explore when it comes to their journeys.
So here are 5 things we learned from the Wynonna Earp: Vengeance panel at SDCC 2024, hosted by the amazing Dani Kind!
1. The Wynonna Earp fandom has always been here
Theoretically I knew that Earpers were still fighting for Wynonna Earp. But there’s a difference between knowing it and actually witnessing it first hand again. At the panel for Vengeance there were proud and loud Earpers who weren’t afraid to show their love for this show. They had shirts with “Not all heroes wear capes” and a silhouette of the bearded face of Josh Van Houdt, the VP of content at Tubi, right in the middle. (Tim Rozon liked the shirt so much he wanted one for himself.) They even had a banner version in rainbow font with the added hashtag of “Josh from Tubi.” The point being, Earpers have always been here and will continue being here for this show.
2. It’s less reunion, more reboot
Right after the premiere trailer, showrunner Andras said that the most important thing to remember about Vengeance is that it “feels less like a reunion, and more like a reboot.” So if you’ve watched the show before, you’ll get what’s going on. But “if you’ve never seen it before, if your sexy aunt has never seen it before, you’re gonna get them to watch this and they’re going to get it.” You’re not going to need 4 seasons to understand what makes these characters special. “It’s a self-contained story.”

3. Emily Andras met the cast where they’re at
The cast of Wynonna Earp aren’t the same people they were in 2016 when this cult classic of a show premiered or when it ended in 2021. And instead of going backwards and trying to “fit into old shoes,” Andras is meeting each actor where they are now according to Dom Provost-Chalkley. “To have a showrunner and a team that want to embrace our evolutions too. So for me it was like, “Is it ok that Waverly doesn’t have her magical long hair anymore?” And Emily was like, “Yeah, let’s embrace it.”
4. The cast is still so in sync
The Wynonna Earp cast have grown and changed as people. But seeing them on stage, goofing off with each other and reminiscing about the past, it’s clear that they’re still so in sync. They’re still family. And the memories they have, be it Melanie Scrofano recounting their first SDCC together or reuniting with the crew who made the OG show what it is in the first place, are tied to who they are. All of that was clear to see in every smile they shared and the fun they had on that panel stage.

5. Waverly is living her “wifey lifey” with Sheriff Haught
While talking about where Waverly is at, Provost-Chalkley shared that Waves is living her “wifey lifey” and “has settled into her queerness.” And that their evolution and maturity is something that was put into Waverly herself. As for Sheriff Haught, Katherine Barrell said stepping her magical moment returning to the show was getting her stetson because “that’s such a Nicole thing.” And being Nicole, it makes her feel like a “braver version of herself.”
