The trailer for body-positive film Empire Waist has finally dropped, and it looks absolutely delightful. In a world where society thinks we all have to have one body type to be of value, writer/director Claire Ayoub is proving otherwise.
Empire Waist tells the story of “Lenore Miller (Mia Kaplan) an overweight, insecure teen whose talent for fashion is discovered by her confident, plus-sized classmate Kayla (Jemima Yevu), forcing her into the spotlight-and into the path of both bullies and new friends. But her image-conscious mother Rachel’s (Missi Pyle) fears and Lenore’s own self-loathing prevent her from wearing her own designs. Will Lenore ever feel the self-love she inspires in others?”
We were already interested in Empire Waist when we initially read the synopsis. The trailer only added to that. We wish a film like this one existed when we were teens because anything that celebrates the uniqueness of humans who are all different shapes and sizes is something we can get behind. We admit that we shed a few tears watching the trailer because this just looks like such a feel-good film.
