We can’t stop watching Boot Camp! We had the chance to sit down and talk with the stars of the film Rachel Boudwin and Drew Ray Tanner about their experience on the film, their characters’ journey, the future of Whitney and Axel, and the very important message of the film. Ready?
Here we go!
Whitney & Axel’s Journey in Boot Camp

To break the ice, we asked Rachel Boudwin and Drew Ray Tanner to describe the film to someone who hasn’t read Gina Musa’s story on Wattpad, and they both emphasized that Boot Camp is much more than just a YA romance story. It’s about a young girl, Whitney, who decides to enroll in a fitness camp to overcome her insecurities.
However, what she finds there is much more than she expected: a journey of self-discovery, friendship, and love. It’s not just about transforming her body, but about building confidence and rediscovering her worth. It’s a story about learning to love yourself before you can open up to others.
To prepare for their respective roles, both actors underwent physical training. Rachel explained that Whitney goes through an intense training program in the story, so she had to undergo a similar regimen as well. And both she and Drew joked with us reminiscing about some of those moments and what it was like filming the training scenes.
Beyond the physical aspect, though, Rachel dove into the psychology of her character to understand her insecurities and how they affected her daily life. Drew, for his part, mentioned that playing Axel meant not only enjoying having the camp students explore their physical limits but also understanding the responsibility he has as a mentor.
The evolution of the characters throughout the film is one of the highlights of Boot Camp. Rachel discussed with us Whitney’s powerful arc, as she begins the film feeling very insecure, but as she progresses, she gains confidence and realizes that she is worthy of love, both from others and from herself.
For Rachel, the hardest part was capturing that moment of transition, when Whitney finally realizes her own worth, an emotional challenge but very rewarding for the message it reflects.
Drew, on the other hand, explored the duality of Axel, a character who seems to have everything under control, but who also faces his own fears, traumas, and insecurities. Drew’s way of capturing that balance between being strong for others and, at the same time, being vulnerable made Axel feel much more human.
Boot Camp Self-Empowerment Message

One of the central messages of Boot Camp is body positivity, personal empowerment, and confidence, topics that both actors consider essential today and which we discussed a lot in our interview.
Rachel Boudwin and Drew Ray Tanner emphasized that Boot Camp offers a message of empowerment and acceptance. In a world where social media and social pressure create unattainable beauty standards, it’s essential to show that we are all enough just the way we are, as well as learn to love ourselves and embrace our own power.
Both Rachel Boudwin and Drew Ray Tanner believe that this is where Boot Camp sets itself apart from other teen romance movies, as it focuses on personal growth and self-empowerment. Romance is important, but it’s only one part of the larger narrative about finding strength within oneself.
To wrap things up, we asked Rachel Boudwin and Drew Ray Tanner about the future of Whitney and Axel. And let me tell you, they both believe that the two had their happily ever after! But the best part was knowing that they had both already discussed this and seeing how each of them imagined them in twenty years. They’re incredibly funny and we laughed so hard together!
