The announcement we have all been waiting for has finally come. The Netflix series Supacell has been renewed for a second season. The series centers on five Black people living in South London who develop superpowers because of their common familial history of sickle cell. Hence, the name “Supacell.” Because of those superpowers, a secret organization is intent on capturing them.
Supacell is an important series. Mainly because, as we previously said, representation matters. So many people have been craving a show like this, and Creator Rampan gave it to us. Since its debut in June, Supacell has done incredibly well. According to Deadline, it’s one of the biggest to come out of the UK in a while. The series is still dominating the top 10 lists globally. That is pretty awesome, and that’s why we are so glad the series was picked up. After that ending, we would have seriously questioned Netflix’s judgment if it hadn’t been.
There is still so much left to explore with Supacell. Season one was amazing from start to finish, and every cast member performed phenomenally. We’re looking forward to continuing Michael’s (Tosin Cole), Andre’s (Eric Kofi Abrefa), Rodney’s (Calvin Demba), Sabrina’s (Nadine Mills), and Tazers’ (Josh Tedeku) journey. Creator Rapman is just as ready as we are. He is so ready that he already has season two mapped out. Before Supacell premiered, Rapman told Tudum, “I’ve got stuff planned for this story. I’ve had this in my head for years.” He refers to season one as his “Batman Begins” because it’s a prequel to what these characters will become in season two.
That’s a great way to put it because, man, did those five go through the wringer in season one? But especially Michael, because spoiler alert: He lost the love of his life, Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo), despite everything he did to try and prevent it. A loss like that changes you. And if Michaels’s final words, “When I come back, they’re all gonna f**cking pay,” are any indication, Season two is going to take us for a ride, and we are more than ready.
Supacell Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
