The trailer for Dr. Odyssey was released, and we have watched it repeatedly. It’s mainly because Joshua Jackson looks pretty handsome in that uniform, but we digress. In all seriousness, with a Ryan Murphy show, something is always hiding under the surface. Dr. Odyssey looks like a regular drama, but we beg to differ. And that’s why we’ve got five things to speculate about. So join us and see if these are also things you’re wondering about.
1. There’s more to Captain Massey than meets the eye.

We don’t necessarily think there’s something sinister about Captain Massey (Don Johnson); however, as we said, this is a Ryan Murphy show, and his characters tend to be flawed and messy humans. It’s evident from the trailer and how the captain describes The Odyssey as “Heaven” that he is so dead set on preserving the dream that he would do anything to ensure he runs a tight ship. (Yes, the pun was totally intended). We also wonder if he and Dr. Max Bankman (Jackson) have a closer relationship. Are they besties? Are they family? You know, there’s always that moment of “Hi, Dad” or something like that. Someone is related to someone on this show. They have to be. So we’re calling it now.
2. We think we’re going to like Dr. Max. At least, we hope we will.

Dr. Max seems like a very charming and charismatic guy with some major skills to save lives. He would have to be pretty amazing to get hired to work on one of the fanciest ocean liners designed for the rich. We’re already fans of Jackson’s anyway, so we’re hoping that we like him. We know he’s not going to be perfect, but we do need someone to root for on this show, and it would be nice to root for the good doctor.
3. There is definitely something going on between these two.

One thing that makes a good drama is a messy and complicated love triangle. And looking at Nurse Tristan Silva (Sean Teale) and Nurse Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo), we can tell something was or is going on between the two. Maybe they’re strictly coworkers, but Tristan wants more with Avery. Perhaps they are together, and there’s trouble in paradise, and the arrival of Dr. Max shakes their foundation even more. Either way, we are here for the mess.
4. We smell a rivalry between Dr. Max and Nurse Tristan.

Rivalries are a big part of dramas, so we can’t imagine there won’t be one between these two. First of all, Tristan is probably a Nurse who has been with The Odyssey for a while and has seen his fair share of doctors come and go. So, for him, Dr. Max may be just another one he has to watch out for. There is already that power struggle between a nurse and a doctor, but things get a bit tense when you add in that male bravado where you don’t think anyone can tell you how to do your job. And, as we said in our third speculation, we feel there could be a love triangle between these dudes and Nurse Avery.
5. The ship is more than likely going to sink or almost sink.

Yes, we said it. We think The Odyssey is in danger of sinking. It’s a ship, okay. We’ve seen Titanic. No ships are safe. Also, again, this is what? Say it with us- A Ryan Murphy show. Did you watch that scary cruise Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) took on 9-1-1? Also, look at that trailer. There is a scene with Captain Massey saying the words “Brace for impact” as the crew holds on for dear life. When it happens, and it will, we hope they get rescued quickly and don’t have to spend multiple episodes stranded.
Dr. Odyssey premieres Thursday, September 26th, on ABC.
