If you loved the first season of Special Ops: Lioness, then today is a good day. The show, which has been retitled to just Lioness, has set a date for its second season return. And not just that, Paramount+ has also given us a look at a brand-new character!
Genesis Rodriguez (The Umbrella Academy) is set to join the second season of the show and play Captain Josephina “Josie” Carillo. Also joining Season 2 is Bruce McGill (Reacher), who will play NSA Chief Damian Hollar, and Jennifer Ehle (Law & Order: Organized Crime), who will play Chief of Staff Mason.

Special Ops: Lioness tells the story of Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña. She is “the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing, and leading her female undercover operatives.” Basically, she is in charge of assets, primarily women, who get close to other women close to people who are in powerful positions.
Inspired by an actual US military program, it sees Joe stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not only does she have to make sure her operatives like an “aggressive Marine Raider named Cruz,” played by Laysla De Oliveira, stay alive. She also has to deal with a political game she’s getting tired of and the woes of a personal life like everyone else.
The second season synopsis teases that: “As the CIA’s fight against terror moves closer to home, Joe (Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Kidman), and Byron (Kelly) enlist a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously unknown threat. With pressure mounting from all sides, Joe is forced to confront the profound personal sacrifices she has made as the leader of the Lioness program.”
Saldaña is joined by Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly, and Morgan Freeman. Kidman oversees the Lioness program as Kaitlyn Meade alongside Kelly’s character Donald Westfield. For his part, Freeman plays Edwin Mullins, the Secretary of State. Taylor Sheridan serves as creator and showrunner.
