The thing about Uglies is that it was never about how you look. It was always about how you think you look, or how you think you should look. It was always more about perception, which the movie Uglies tries to convey. And that is exactly what we wanted to discuss with author Scott Westerfeld in a convo that turned a little philosophical and ended up being more about the book we read, we’re not going to say how many years ago, and the message we took from it.
We’re not going to spoil all the good stuff from the video below, but we are going to leave you with some good quotes from it, as a teaser before you click:
- “The most beautiful people in the world still get up every day and worry about how they look.”
- “There’s always somebody out there who is calling you ugly. There’s always somebody who you think is more pretty than you.”
- “The thing about the pretties is that it’s not that Tally or Shay or any of them were really ugly. They were normal kids. Some of them were beautiful. I think there’s some evidence in the book that Tally was beautiful before she got the operation.”
