Uglies. Have you watched the movie yet? It’s kind of one of those things that we’re a little afraid of people’s reactions to the movie. There’s a lot of mixed emotions about the movie, but here we are.
The one thing that we can say about the movie that we did love was the song for the credits. We’d know that voice anywhere. Natalie Jane – whose voice is all over TikTok – wrote a song called The Top. It’s featured in the movie and is the song on the end credits.
“Take a deep breath of the fire, Just to prove I have good lungs, Bow down to the new empire, diamonds in the rough,” she sings in the song, “Everybody wait but disaster, Don’t believe in wonderland, Don’t, don’t even know what I’m after.”
In regards to using the song in Uglies, the movie’s music supervisor, Rob Lowry, said, “From the moment we heard Natalie Jane’s ‘The Top,’ we knew we had to find a way to work it into Uglies. Tonally speaking, the instrumentation felt so a part of what we were trying to create sonically with the music of the film – both with score and the source. And lyrically, Natalie was hitting on so many themes that our protagonists were dealing with in their own journeys – both in the film’s narrative and their own internal battles – that it felt tailor made for the film.”
Uglies is streaming now on Netflix. Listen to the song below.
