Netflix dropped another Squid Game teaser trailer during Geeked Week 2024. And even thought it was 1 minute long, there’s plenty of things that we noticed about what comes next for for Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae. From the nightmares that plague him, to the games previewed, here are 5 things we noticed from the Squid Game season 2 special trailer released during Geeked Week!
1. Plagued by nightmares
Last we left, Gi-hun was about to get on a plane to visit his daughter. He had a new fit and hairstyle. And just before getting on that plane he saw The Salesman, the man who guided him to The Game. That spurred him to vow to take the whole system and game down. But this man we see in the season 2 teaser? This is a man waking up from a nightmare. He looks glass eyed, almost panicked, as if trying to ground himself from a nightmare too real. And it makes you wonder, how long has he been chasing The Game since the end of season 1.

2. They’re seeking him out
If Gi-hun has changed this much (red hair gone, tired looking, and facial hair) it means he’s been chasing The Game for a while with no results. But for some reason, there comes a point where the guards seek him out. In the trailer, you see them once approach him at a club, that matches the wording of “CLUB HDH” on the door in the picture below. But the Front Man also approaches him in the first few seconds at the hotel that Gi-hun is staying in. So, why now? What’s different that they’d allow him back into The Game?

3. The game is not going smoothly
At one point in the trailer for Squid Game season 2, you see the guards rush from the control room. You only do that if things aren’t going according to plan and the contestants are doing something they shouldn’t be. Each game already has their guards to fulfill the consequences of losing a game. The only reason why they would need more, is if a rebellion has started. And whoever has rebelled, is also armed. We came to that conclusion because it looked like they were moving stealthly through the halls. You only do that when you have an opponent that can hit you back just as hard as you can hit them.

4. Thinking of a time jump for season 2
Note the clean shaven face. At the beginning of the trailer, he had facial hair and looked like he was one bad nap from a breakdown. When in the game, he’s cleaned up and back in his old number 456. The people who are part of the game don’t care what you look like. So either this is a nightmare like the first point we made in this post, or a time jump from his messy era has happened.

5. New international games
In the teaser trailer we did see the infamous red light/green light arena from above. But we now have a new game with an international twist. If you look closely at the rainbow circles, there are numbers on it as if it were a track. And the walls make it look like windows into classrooms. But that’s not the international bit. Across the corners of the brief glimpse we got, there are international flags, possibly signaling that the games are going to get more complex and mix foreign games with that of ones well known in Korea.
