Written and directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Ryan Coogler, Sinners tells the story of twin brothers who return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. Both brothers are played by Michael B. Jordan, who has previously worked with Coogler on Creed and Black Panther. Oh, and that evil that followed them home? It looks to be vampires.
While details are scarce, Variety confirmed that Sinners is “based on an original script by Coogler, with the project set in the 1930s Jim Crow era-South and filmed earlier this year in the New Orleans area.” But we think it’s vampires based on multiple factors. One, the setting sun on the poster. Most vampire lore has vampires coming out in the dead of the night due to the adverse affect the sun has on them. Then there’s a part of the trailer where you see a man badly burned, like what we’ve seen in other movies when vampires react to the sun.
More on the vampire of it all, there’s also the fact that we have a scene where over a dozen people hit up a club at night to attack it with Jordan sitting in the daylight in the beginning of the trailer like nothing. He’s shaking and scared of what happened, having flashbacks as he tries to make a cigarette. But he’s ok with being out in the daylight, not consistently turning his head to check behind him.
There’s also something very curious about the trailer for Sinners and the poster. We only see the twin brother in the first seconds, before they go on a hunt. And then we never see Jordan come face to face with himself again when he returns home. Couple that with the poster showing a sun dividing the brothers, one with a sinister grin, we think that the synopsis is a red herring. One brother made it home. One didn’t. And the one who didn’t is a vampire.
