In a surprise turn of events, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft got a season 2 renewal. This comes only 2 weeks after the show premiered on Netflix.
The animated series picks up after the events of the Tomb Raider video game Survivor trilogy. That trilogy consisted of Tomb Raider; Rise of the Tomb Raider; Shadow of the Tomb Raider). Voiced by Hayley Atwell, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a powerful artifact is stolen by a thief with a personal connection. What follows is an adventure around the world where she will be forced to confront her true self and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.
Season 1 of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft currently has 73% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. As for the audience score, the animated series received only received a 33% approval rating. Combine the low audience score with the fact that most Netflix shows are cancelled before they get past season 1, the season 2 renewal comes as a surprise. Also what comes as a surprise is that the official Tomb Raider website already has a preview of what’s to come when the show returns.
