Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 7 ‘Contrition‘ focuses on Dante Torres in a way the show rarely has before, and it does so in a way that might feel stereotypical, but it also feels real. When Dante is at Church at the beginning of the episode, there’s nothing about what he’s saying, about the way he behaves, that doesn’t resonate with someone who grew up in the Latine community as well. And though the episode is about more than that, the fact that the show can manage to give his character some nuance, even within the confines of a familiar story, feels like a good thing for Dante going forward.
But this episode gives him more than that, it gives him grounding in the team too. He had that before, of course. It’s just that it was with Jay and Hailey, two characters that left. Now, however, the show has given him a real link with Kevin, with Kiana and now with Kim, and the fact that it has gives the character more depth and makes Chicago P.D. better.

Dante and …Kim?

It’s always a great thing when the show remembers what happened before, and in Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 7 ‘Contrition’ it doesn’t just do that, it makes sure to give Kim and Dante the chance to have a conversation that follows up on what they already experienced together, and to bond over the fact that they have one shared secret.
But the episode also allows them a kinship we hadn’t seen before, and that feels like exactly what Dante needs. Kim is his partner in this hour, and they’re part of the same team, but she’s also in many ways the big sister telling him what he needs to hear and he might not want to. And Dante has never had that. Until you get it, you might not realize how much you need it. How much it might change your life to have it.

Kiana

It’s just one line, and Kiana is made. Or at least, that’s what it looks like. But before that, she was doing an amazing job at her first undercover operation. And though Chicago Fire resisted the urge to stretch the cliffhanger from Episode 7 to Episode 8, Chicago P.D. doesn’t. Whatever happens with Kiana and Gloria won’t be resolved until next week. Hopefully.
There’s still so much for Kiana to learn, so much for the team to learn about her. But, even if Gloria’s paranoia might have put her in danger this hour, the fact that she went in, that she got the little moments with Kim, with Kevin and with Dante, those are all very good signs. Chicago P.D. Season 12 seems to be taking to heart something fans have asked for over and over, the idea of a team that feels like a team. And we will never complain about that.
