9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5 Episode 8 “The Quiet Ones” was focused on the 126 coming together to fight for Tommy, which results in them helping all first responders. Wyatt also gets a 9-1-1 call that gives Carlos more insight on who killed his father. We review.

Increasing the Odds
Tommy and Owen discuss Tommy’s treatment plan at the beginning of “The Quiet Ones”. Her plan is experimental but gives her basically a 100 percent chance of beating cancer. Traditional chemotherapy only gives her roughly a fifty percent chance of survival. But then Tommy learns that her insurance doesn’t cover the experimental treatment.
Owen is outraged and talks to the mayor, but the city doesn’t have money to fund experimental treatments. So, Owen decides to find the money. The entire 126 look through every page of the budget, and we have to say, we’re impressed. That budget was like a million pages long. But the team loves Tommy, and they want her to have the best health insurance available. They’ll do whatever it takes to help.
Eventually, the team is successful in getting Tommy her treatment, but of course, she can’t accept it unless everyone gets the best care. Reluctantly, the mayor agrees. This was an important story, and we’re happy the writers went here. So many people are denied health insurance, so they either don’t get the care they need, or they go bankrupt trying to save their lives. It’s a problem.

The Rolling Nines
At the beginning of “The Quiet Ones”, Wyatt gets a call at the 9-1-1 center which doesn’t have a good ending. Julio was Wyatt’s first caller that he’s lost, and our hearts break for him. It must have been awful to know that Julio was so close to surviving but then was stabbed.
Julio’s death was courtesy of the Rolling Nines, who were connected to the murder of Carlos’ dad. Carlos and Campbell find Gabriel’s missing informant, who has some very interesting information. He speaks one word to Carlos: Campbell. Wait. What? Is Campbell a dirty ranger? Did he kill Gabriel or is he involved in the Rolling Nines? This makes us terrified for Carlos. And also, we’re kind of sad because we were starting to like Campbell. But maybe there’s another explanation. Maybe.

Possible Adoption?
We were surprised to see Enzo again, but we can’t say we were disappointed to see Henry Ian Cusick. Enzo wants to send Jonah to a boarding school, but TK disagrees. He possibly wants to adopt Jonah. This makes sense as TK is his closest relative. However, Carlos isn’t sold on the idea.
Carlos isn’t ready to adopt, and his reasons make sense, too. For one, would the courts let TK adopt Jonah even though Enzo wants him to go to boarding school? And Carlos does have a point about their schedules. Who would watch him while they’re on shift? All of their friends are first responders along with most of their family. I guess they would figure it out like all parents do. The bigger question is: does Carlos really want kids?
We get that Carlos has been through a lot. But it just doesn’t sound like TK and Carlos are on the same page. And that has us worried. They need to figure things out. And soon.
