There is something special that happens with Paul Campbell, Andrew Walker, and Tyler Hynes come together. You can’t help but smile and be filled with joy. Pure joy that radiates off the screen and you can’t help but be drawn in.
Three Wiser Men and A Boy was definitely an example of just that.
These three create art. Art that comes to people at a moment that people need it and speaks to them in a way that is needed. It’s in part by the chemistry that these three have on the screen, but it is also in their delivery.
Yes, Paul Campbell, Andrew Walker, and Tyler Hynes will bring you something special when they are on screen together.
In the movie, five years have passed and the Brenner brothers seem to be all moving forward. Luke is now the fire chief and is feeling a little old. Stefan has written a book about getting over anxiety, but is still anxious. Taylor had branched out and started his own gaming company, but that is crashing and burning.
Thomas is now in kindergarten. He’s definitely loving his father and uncles always being there for him, but in this movie, he’s going to be teaching them how to be there for themselves and each other.
In a mishap, when each one of the brothers shows up at pageant rehearsal, the director quits. In all fairness, Stefan and Taylor really destroyed that set and I would have had a heart attack. It felt like slow motion watching everything fall apart, but also I enjoyed the laughter. When Luke walks in – after everything had fallen – no one really wants to take the blame. And this is when things start to get even more fun.

PRINCIPALS OFFICE
The Brenner brothers are funny. But they are also this calm that you can see on the screen, because seeing them, you know that you’re going to be in for two hours of nonstop laughter.
Luke is asked to go into the Principals office and tells his brothers that they are coming. They both don’t protest, as they know that they need to be there for their nephew. The brothers are told that they broke it, they bought it, and they are going to need to put on the pageant.
You know that this is going to be good, because these three do not know how to play together. Each one of them struggles for control, but this is going to be a time that they need to learn to work together.
For Thomas’ sake.

MAMA’S GOT A NEW MAN
Things have to be serious for their Mom to want to introduce them to her new man over the Christmas season. When the boys are introduced to Pastor Roy, they don’t seem to take to kindly to their Mom having a boyfriend.
Pastor Roy is one of those men who seems too good to be true. He seems to be part of everything and have a history in everything. The Brenner brothers are less than welcoming to Pastor Roy. In all fairness though, the good Pastor seems to be overstepping every time we turn around.
Seeing the boys acting like preteens who don’t want their Mom to date, somehow is part of their charm. They all seem to turn into overprotective children who will not give the man a chance.
I wasn’t sure how I would feel watching this – with their Mom dating. BUT, I actually would find myself getting upset every single time they treated Pastor Roy mean. You could see the pain on their Mothers face, waiting for the other show to drop all of the time.

THE DIRECTION
While most of the kids need to drop out of the pageant after Taylor gives one a Peanut Butter cooke, the ones that are there really want it to succeed. The boys work to find a way to get through it – all while paying attention to Thomas and his needs.
This may be some of the most special moments in the movie – all of them having moments with Thomas. He’s taking their worst moments and showing them how to grow. They also find themselves growing by just being there.
You know that they are going to do everything to make this pageant happen, even after part of the stage burns. It was something that they tried to blame on the Pastor and were quick to judge him. It’s kinda sad to see, but one move that I think that we would all do.
It takes their Mom sitting them down for them to all listen to her. She puts them in their place – which I applauded – and they all realize the way that they have been acting and the things that they have been keeping from each other.

THE SHOW
Don’t you know that being nice to Pastor Roy will get you things? Everyone seems to love this man and because the Brenner’s are related to someone he loves he’s going to go out on a limb for them. He gets the stage inspected, so that the show can go on.
And what a show it was. There’s something adorable about kids singing their hearts out and making all sorts of mistakes. It’s charming. It’s endearing. I had to laugh but also smile. The way that they all come together to support those kids and make sure the show goes on – I applaud.
Overall, Three Wiser Men and a Boy was a comedy filled with heart, humor, and happiness. It was a great follow up to the original. We wouldn’t mind another follow up.
