Netflix’s Hot Frosty reads like a fanfiction by Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Doug Judy. Played by Craig Robinson, who also plays Sheriff Nathaniel Hunter in Hot Frosty, Doug Judy is a charismatic, smooth talking, musically inclined, and elusive criminal. And while watching Hot Frosty we couldn’t help this nagging feeling that this entire movie was something straight out of an alternate universe fanfiction on AO3. So here are 5 reasons why we think this Christmas movie was penned by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s most lovable thief and con-artist.
1. Him being in law enforcement.
If there’s anything that Doug Judy has always wanted, it’s to be part of NYC’s finest. And if he can’t do it in real-life, then certainly fanfiction would give him an avenue to play the Sheriff in a small New York town. Throw a mystery only he can solve, EVEN BETTER!

2. Kathy and Jack are giving Amy and Jake
In Doug Judy’s fanfiction, he would do something out-of-pocket like casting Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan after watching Mean Girls and Schitt’s Creek. Chabert because that might be his dream girl more than anything. And Milligan because he wants his version of Jake to have abs for days.

3. The presence of Charles Boyle.
Deputy Sheriff Ed Schatz is giving Charles Boyle through and through. From the love of food to the endless talking, this is Boyle all over again. And I do think that a small part of Doug Judy has always envied the relationship Jake has with Boyle. So why not write this relationship in Hot Frosty but for himself?

4. It’s set in New York.
Doug Judy isn’t going far if he’s writing a fanfiction about himself as Sheriff. And it wasn’t until Kathy and Jack were heading off to their Hawai’i vacation that I saw the license plates were for New York. So it validated my feelings even more that this was an elaborate fic on AO3. And how did he pick this town? Maybe Holt and Kevin from Brooklyn Nine-Nine went there and he heard them talk about it off-hand.

5. Cool, cool, cool.
At one point the words “cool, cool, cool” are uttered in Hot Frosty. If you know Brooklyn Nine-Nine, then you know this is an iconic Jake Peralta line. I rest my case on these abs.

BONUS:
If you’re watching Hot Frosty, watch the credits. Robinson is shown singing and playing the piano. Straight up Doug Judy move.
