My Grandmother used to tell me that memories were important. In this week’s, The Way Home, Season 3, Episode 5 Del mentions something about memories, and I have to admit that I never thought about traveling through time and the pond as memories.
See every time that Alice and Kat jump – they are jumping back into someone’s memories. Yes, they are living the lives that they are meant to live. We have to ask for those who are in the past, are they rewriting memories? Are they changing the future? Or are we in this continuous loop?
Time travel can get really confusing if you let it. I am definitely letting it. But the thing is – when it comes to The Way Home – I am ready to fall deep into the confusion. Why?
Because these characters mean a lot to me (and to a lot of people). So yes, whatever they do, I am here for it. I am watching for every single clue and every single easter egg. It doesn’t matter the time period or who it is, watching the stories play out, I am always going to be trying to figure out the clues.
And leaving more confused (and invested) than ever.

1974 & CASSANDRA
When The Way Home Season 3, Episode 5 is back in 1974, it just seems like Kat and Alice are making pitstops back then. It feels like they are there to look at Colton and then go back to their lives in 2025.
The biggest issue that I was having with travel, is that for a bit, it felt like Kat and Alice forgot that they are there for a reason. The pond is taking them where they need to go. While it does take a second for me to figure out how everything is weaving its way together and yet not doing anything at all.
Evelyn, Delilah, and Colton – Alice partaking in this storyline makes me uncomfortable. Making sure your grandparents get together feels weird. Also as weird? Comforting the person who wished that they had your grandfather for their boyfriend.
I love that Alice and Evelyn get along, but I also think that it’s weird. That and the whole contact the ghost thing? This is also weird. Evelyn wants to contact the spirit. Colton may not be down for it, but he gives in. And Del gives in too. Del would like for people to see her as one of the group.
There is definitely a presence there. It pops open a cabinet that no one notices at first. Colton and Delilah split, but Evelyn and Alice stay behind, talking. And then, finding the painting.
Though we don’t know what is going to happen, I have a feeling that it’s all going to start to come out because it always does. What we’re missing – I am not sure of. But, I do believe that Colton and Evelyn – there is something there, and whatever it is – has the power to change everything.

EMMA & THE SURPRISE APPEARANCE
Elliott’s ex-wife shows up and I hate it. I hate it because I like her so much. Seeing her makes me know that we’re going to have some trouble. I do not like you Emma, but I also like you. It’s a weird thing.
I do not think that showing up out of nowhere is cool and I don’t think that all of the stuff that came out because Emma is there is okay.
Eliott doesn’t know how to react to Emma being there. I think for him it’s familiarity and that makes it easy. He needs that because every single day of his life is unpredictable with Kat. I think that Elliott loves Kat, yes. But, I also think that he’s spent so much time not knowing how to love that it makes it somewhat complicated.
And by complicated – I mean only complicated for Elliott. He’s not innocent. He’s a good guy – sure. But he also only seems to think of how it affects him. For Elliott ,it feels like he’s always thinking about what is done to him and even if it’s not – he’ll make it about himself and how he’s the martyr.
By some means that is okay.
Kat is trying to make Emma feel comfortable – though both of them are acting out of jealousy. She should have never asked Emma to Del’s party. Kat doesn’t seem to like others taking attention away from her but she’s also not committed to keeping the attention on her.
Elliot and Kat are complicated. They are comfortable with each other. Even when they revisit the night that Elliot and Emma got engaged and we find out that was the night that Brady and Kat started splitting apart – there was a comfort. The comfort then was the same old same old of Elliot thinking he was not enough and Kat being complacent.
And now with Emma and Brady both there, that complication lives stronger. They’ve never known what being honest with each other is and that will be the downfall.

A SURPRISE
A party for Del. I love that for her. She may hate her birthday, but she still deserves to be celebrated. I do love that it didn’t matter to anyone that she hates her birthday. They were going to make sure she celebrated it.
Even Sam.
Del needs moments like these. Moments where she’s allowed to remember that she’s still alive and moments where even though Colton is gone. Del is allowed is try to hang on – I get that. This has all been a lot for her. She’s hated her birthday because that’s when she first left Port Haven after that one perfect summer.
Something had to have happened to her that day that she left that made everything change in a way that she would hate to look back upon that day.
Emma playing something for Del and Alice singing was perfect. It sounds like a song about Kat – weird, but it tracks that it would find its way to her. I don’t know who Kat is – but she seems to have importance every time and I need to understand why.
I was surprised that Kat walked up and grabbed the music book to read the words. There were things that only she and Jacob could know were about her, but being so obvious about it in front of people that had nothing to do with the time… it feels odd.
I am beginning to feel like more than anything in this show we’re piecing together who Kat is – because it’s her secrets and her actions that change everything for all involved.
I feel like it was somehow her that started the pond being magic. IDK.

FIGHTS WITH GRANDMA
Del is falling apart trying to keep whatever secret that she has in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 5. I don’t know what it is and I am not sure how it will affect everyone, but there is something big there. It’s something that could change things for Kat and Jacob. I just feel it.
So, this being a factor, I do understand why it is that Del doesn’t want them in her memories. There are so many things that Del keeps close to her and I am not sure what it is this time. But I know – in my heart of hearts – that Del would never, ever want to hurt Alice.
Alice is excited to be able to talk to her Grandmother about everything. She wants to tell her Grandmother the things that she may not have seen or known and that seems to make Del angry. For Del, having to look at things from a different point of view makes her feel like someone is saying something against her and Colton.
No one is saying anything against Del and Colton’s relationship, but I hate that she feels that way. I also hate that Alice was made to feel bad about who she is.
Alice wants a connection. She wants to understand the family dynamics. She wants to share with Del what she’s seen and somehow be able to relate to her Grandma that way. At least that’s my takeaway.
I feel for them both here.

WHAT JACOB WANTS
I never thought I would be thankful for Brady, but I am. I am happy that he’s in town for Del’s party in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 5, as he’s needed right now. For Alice and for Kat to have their anchor.
When it comes to Brady, I do believe that he loves his new life, but I also believe that he misses the life that he knows he could have had as a part of this family. He just doesn’t get he still is.
For Brady to apologize to Jacob and having held himself responsible for all of this for years – that’s a lot for anyone to carry. Having to give people answers – as Jacob seems to have to – isn’t easy. The world wants to blame themselves and Jacob’s just looking for a world to fit into.
Jacob took the job with the Goodwins because he wanted to build a life. He wants to have a life with love, family, and building something. Jacob wants to live and not just exist. He wants to be what his definition of a man is.
Though we can all think of what that definition is – I am not thinking that even Jacob knows what that is. He, after all, is just figuring out who he is. Jacob is experiencing life on this weird level – one that no one else can understand. Jacob is going to have to set parameters and boundaries for himself.
He’s giving people grace and though he’s not asking for that from anyone, I do wish that he would. Whatever choices Jacob makes – well they have to be his. I think that the characters have to root him on, but so do all of the fans of the show. We’ve all grown up, but Jacob is having that for the first time.
He’s just this man who has such optimism and I absolutely treasure that for him. He’s wanting and willing to take the hard knocks and the joy of life – because Jacob is growing to realize that he loves this life. It doesn’t matter how complicated it is – he loves it.
Jacob loves both of his families and I am so thankful that they found him. I’m thankful that the Landry’s of the past and the present have a north star like Jacob.

FIRST DAY OF SENIOR YEAR
The first day of school is never a fun one. Well, at least in my opinion it’s not. It’s a reminder that you have to adhere to a schedule and there is no more sleeping in. When it’s your senior year, it’s different. It’s all plans – saying goodbye to one’s youth but also starting to embrace the future.
We said last week that we think that Casey Goodwin is from the future and this week, well, we feel that stronger than ever.
Del and Alice’s argument left Alice in the clubhouse in tears. She was distraught over her grandmother’s words (we are just angry over them) and this was the only place that she had to be able to be alone. Except Noah finds her up there and in the midst of making out, Noah keeps bringing up Max Goodwin. That day, Max had told him to “wife up” Alice.
Max and Alice do not really get along, but I think that’s personally because he’s full of himself. When the two run into each other walking into school, they run into each other.
And the same clues as to whom Casey is flood through Alice’s mind. But this could go one of two ways – the Goodwins can time travel OR what we think. We bring me. I think Casey is from the future and that Casey is the child of Alice and Max Goodwin.
The Way Home Season 3, Episode 5 is setting up the whole enemies-to-lovers trope between Max and Alice. Here for this.
The Goodwin’s may not be my favorite, but if Alice and Max end up together, I would not be against this. I have a feeling senior year is definitely going to be a road.
A long road for Alice and Max to walk down.

BACK TO 1816
Jacob and Kat doing things together is special. Making up for lost time is something that I love seeing the two do.
I have stated a few times that I want to see more of Jacobs’s growth and his adapting to the time that he is in. We get that in The Way Home Season 3, Episode 5. I do love that. I just haven’t ever really thought about that in order for Jacob to move forward, he’s also going to need to be able to know what happened in the past. The past contains his family.
It has to be for Jacob that he’s got strong family ties in both times. Jacob and Kat have learned about the summer of 1816 and made the choice to go back – I have to admit that I was afraid for them both.
I wish that I could say that I was surprised that they found Goodwin getting married to Susannah. Shocked! In this scenario, I don’t for a second think that Susannah is getting married out of love. I think she was getting married to protect herself and to protect the Landry’s.
Susannah would be a person who would make that sacrifice because when she loves, she does love deeply.
Susannah spots Jacob and Kat right there, you can see that she’s scared but also anxious. The look on Susannah’s face seems to not want to answer questions that they may have.
But that’s the thing about this show – it doesn’t matter if people want to answer questions – they will answer them. And the question that I need personally, answered is what is Thomas doing there watching from the woods? Has he ever left Port Haven or has he been waiting for Kats return?

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Cyrus Goodwin is a creep
- I wanna like Noah. I want to think that he’s a good guy and it is a possibility, but there is something that I think we’re all missing there.
- Susannah not writing about 1816 seems suspect. Very suspect. What happened there?
- The year with no sunshine – that kinda freaked me out. I can’t even imagine what they thought of that in 1816.
- The lullaby from the 1800s that seems to be about Kat seems too convenient for me to be a clue, but also I know it’s one so I accept the convenience.
- I know so many like Elliott and hate me for not, but I just think there is something we are all missing
- Emma is not to be trusted.
